thegeekgroup.org/ - We take a quick look at casters, their make-up, and a bit of the physics behind them. Generously donated by Darnell-Rose, the CartMaster casters were instrumental in making the production sets we built mobile. In this video, we explore the basic build of the Darnell-Rose model, which are usually made for airline beverage carts! It made for an interesting study in making one of our projects more mobile. We needed a sturdy setup that could hold several hundred pounds of two-by-fours, drywall, and equipment while being maintenance free, and these are doing awesome! If you have a project that you want to make easily mobile, you may want to check them out!

i love the absurdly good production quality for a video about caster wheels. thank you for being the only video on the internet that actually explains how they work:D

The term you are looking for is "offset", and "squirrely" describes the unstable turning movement of the front bike wheel when there's not enough rake or offset.

I'm thinking about casters now. Why did I watch this and was it relevant information for me? I have no idea but the video was cool as heck. I never thought I would geek out on casters. Storing this in the memory bank of my mind for future reference. Just in case. Excellent animations by the way.

I wish I had his talent! Excellent presentation! Wish I would have seen this years ago. Six years ago I added two hidden rooms to my office behind bookshelves on casters. The casters have had problems that you address. It's easy to take them for granted when they are so important.

I like the breakdown, I love to see the intricacies and I’m researching how to replace the rollers on my 150 pound old wrought iron birdcage and after watching your video, I’m contacting Darnell Rose, I bet I’ll find what I need. Great video

I must say, A++++++ presentation of the topic here! And that castor system seems to be really well designed too. It all makes one appreciate good design versus the cheapest buy price. Love your work.

Nice Job, Chris! Your voice commentary was well timed to match the computer animation of the casters - I was amazed at the number of piece-parts that went into that well-built caster. Also of value was the on-screen listing of some of the forces and torques observed inside the unit.

The automatic closed captioning for this video is amazingly accurate. Chris, you must have a voice that Google used to train its speech to text system. Very impressive.

The animations are really good. They fit really well with Chris his explanation. I've followed the progress on this over at ThoseAVGeeks and on the supersecret captains channel (I think?) and it was fun seeing the whole video develop. I'm sure Darnell Rose will appreciate this video as well.

Thanks I just listened to a car engineering guy talk about suspension caster... So I was very confused by thenthumbnail.. I got confused that the meaning (the wheel) as I understood it,/until twenty minutes ago WAS the caster-wheel. I mean I knew caster wheels were good... But theyre really interesting... yet I still don't know what caster is in suspension.

So basically, if i have a caster rated for arguments sake at 500kg. And i secure the fork part of the caster in a table vice, leaving the top four hold plate exposed. And i have a rectangular 30inch length x 2inches wider plate than the castor plate, that's 3/4/5mm thick. And i bolt my one end of my plate to the castor and have anywhere up to 500kgs on the other end that's 30inches from the castor. The castor and bearings can take that and turn no problem what so ever?

So..... Do castors all spin the same in terms of speed? Like will one castor spin more freely than another or not? Not talking about the wheel either, im talking about the top part you attatch to what ever it is you're trying to give mobility... Anyone? 😵

Because: nitpick, are you sure the bells on the sides of the wheels are not "THREADguards", because that makes more sense.... and I looked it up in their brochure.
