Casting A COPPER Celtic Skull & Rings - Lost PLA & Wax Casting - Melting Metal At Home

In this video I'll be casting a huge copper skull and some golden rings from scrap copper and bronze. I am using the lost PLA and lost wax method to cast these. I built the casting tree by attaching wax sprues and used investment plaster before burning out the wax and pouring in the molten metal. try using a vacuum system with your perforated flask when pouring the metal for better results (less porosity, more detail) look into the kaya cast system from arbe

I don’t know if you are aware of this trick or not. But get a dowel about 3 inches in circumference and about 12 inches long and taper from about 5 inches to one end. This will secure the ring by a friction hold and keep your hands safely away from the polishing wheel and grinding and sanding. 👍👍👍

I think you'd get a cleaner casting if you heated the mold before pouring the metal. From what I've seen from others, lost wax casting is usually extremely clean, but they always heat their molds before use.

You sir need to buy yourself a bullet brass tumbler! Or even a rock polisher with fine media run them for 20-30 min and the cleanup would all be done for you!

Wow, the level of detail you got out of that plaster was pretty great. Have you ever played with zbrush before? You could probably make some pretty awesome stuff with it.
