This is funny, but I just have to say - that's not *why* he got the role. Even in this clip, they say he was just *SO* good. It wasn't because he didn't read the books, I think Tom is just grateful that not having read the books didn't *keep* him from getting the role, which it shouldn't.

It's actually incredible how this production crew perfectly casted these actors and put this film together, only for the same cast to exist a decade onward among a series of spectacular films in artistic quallty and commercial success. One could call it a beautiful spell of luck, but I for one think it is a case of extremely talented levels of artistic foresight; at the end of the day, Columbus, Heyman and the four casting directors behind this film were the real minds behind this whole masterful project.

Tom, out of all of the actors that started young in the HP movies, grew into his role the best. By the time of The Half Blood Prince, his acting was a perfect portrayal of a conflicted Draco struggling to cross the line.
