It's a lot of fun to do. Just let them air cool for a bit afterwards rather than shocking them with cold water.

Mmm, considering how to deliberately splatter my silver😁. Thought the cubic zirconia setting was brill!

Hi, love your videos, just starting out. Trying to melt a ball into a stone and it's just not sticking. Do you think I might be not making the whole the CZ sits in big enough? Thanks!

Thank you for this great video! Does it matter if there is a little bit of solder left on the scraps I am using? Or should I try to get rid of it before casting? Will it melt evenly into the silver? (not planning to hallmark). Also, if I were to melt different metals together, would they merge and become homogeneous? Out of curiosity. Sorry for all the question! Thank you again for the video! X

Hi Lilie, yes they would melt together and become homogeneous or in metal terms, an alloy. You can give them a little stir with a soldering pick or carefully swirl them in the crucible to make sure they are evenly mixed. With the solder, a little bit is fine if you're not going to hallmark. When I did my 100 consecutive days of recycling the same piece of silver for #misilverchallenge I didn't remove solder for time reasons. It noticeably began to affect the workability of the silver around day 50. So that was a lot of solder joins getting melted into the silver. If there's a lot of solder and it's fairly easy to remove and you have the time, I'd cut or file it out, otherwise, it's fine unless you're worried about purity for hallmarking.

Hi, So do you always have to coat your scrap silver in flux before melting? Great video x

Hi, I’m re-watching one of your videos and I have a question I did something really dumb and I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t even know if it’s possible to fix it but I figured if it was possible you might could help me so here goes, I had a flogged diamond from an old earring and I was trying to set it in a silver ball and it got engulfed in the ball and I can’t get it out. Any suggestions help? If not, that will be a very expensive silver ball lol.

Can this casting technique also work with gold filled bits of metal? Or is gold fill completely different?
@makeitwithkim-jewellerysil3126

Hi Dd, gold filled is a thin bonded layer of gold on another metal such as brass or silver. Unfortunately that means the gold will be 'lost' if you melt it.

Is it possible to put gemstones or metal wire in the balls while they’re still molten?
