Casting He-Man's AXE From SCRAP Metal - Sand Casting Aluminum Process DIY

In this video I will be casting He-Man's Axe From the old cartoon show Masters of the universe. I started with a 3d printed model of the axe and made a mold of it in petrobond sand. I then melted down some scrap aluminum and poured the molten metal into the mold. I finished by grinding off the sprues and sanding the axe. I'm glad you shortned that video! The dremel work alone looked like days of work... and that petrobond is not cheap. But still, you make this look like art! 👍 I have a project I'd like to run by you. I printed a 3d "digital sun dial" on a chitty pla printer. It works! I just need it casted in something....

It's a cool axe, but as an avid 3d printer person, the only thing I would suggest is buying some Smooth-On XTC-3D to cover your 3d prints with. Your prints are pretty good and I think that XTC-3D would remove most, if not all, of your print lines thus making a more incredible casting.

Do you do anything to heat-treat your crucibles before melting? I've had a few lately where I used them out of the box like it appears you do here and they must have something like a silicate in them because when I melted with them I ended up having a goopy mess in the bottom of my furnace that hardened like glass

Very nice work. I made one a while back, but I think I had my proportion off a bit, handle was to skinny. The same for the sword, but I haven't done that yet. One day lol

Nah BigstackD lives in Australia! Adam is in Las Vegas, Nevada USA, I guess suburban neighborhoods look pretty similar all over lol when Adam records out his garage door the street could be mine too! Same gravel yards, mountain range behind the houses across the street, houses all look about the same too (I'm in New Mexico) I think BigstackD has more greenery than Adam or I as we both live in the desert

Very nice 👌, I was thinking of casting a Celtic axe in brass and then casting the handle in aluminum, though as I want it to be a functional piece I am not 100% on how I'm going to cast the handle

Most likely the thinner layer. It wasn't filled all the way due to his running out of sufficient Petro-bond.
