Making a Skeletonized Hammer - COPPER or BRASS hammer? HAMMER TIME!

I wanted to create a unique machinists hammer with removable soft blow faces. I designed the hammer handle with a skeletonized look. I cast the body of the hammer out of A365 aluminum and the faces are copper and brass. This was a fun project that I hope you all enjoy watching!

Can you please make a handle out of leather or some other material to use the open sections to tie stuff to. Perhaps put some padding-style material in the groove handle and wrap it cross-style using the holes near the bottom. Another thing is that the top having those random shapes to make the X is kind of cool, but it would be REALLY cool if instead of that it was your LOGO and the middle line goes all the way down the handle inside the groove. Love your videos!

Awesome hammer one quick tip for the interchangeable faces just drill and tap a 1/4-20 hole for a set screw so you never have to worry about the ends being loose. But I definitely wish I could buy that hammer very slick idea.

I really liked the idea of this hammer having the head screwed on. In theory you can create other heads for this hammer and change them as needed. It can transform into a rubber-headed hammer (used in woodworking), tipped steel head, or even a small ax or wheel wrench.

Hammers like this one have been being made both mass produced and custom made for a long time. You are right, you change the heads out for whatever you need. Most commonly brass and Delrin or PLA heads are used on them.

I've made essentially exactly this before, just less cool looking and the one warning I have for this kind of thing is that even though the screw-on faces are soft, with enough use they will completely deform the actual hammer head. This was bad enough on mine that the whole thing had to be scrapped so for v2 I put a thin (2mm ish) replaceable plastic washer behind each head to soak up the impacts and it seems to work well.

Copper and aluminimum can also have a galvanic potential too, we run into this a lot in watercooling too, lots of cheap parts are aluminimum so you can only use them with alu blocks and rads etc

I remember decades ago, about 5, in metal shop in high school. We did sand casting, sheet metal work and machine work on a lathe. I made a small 2 faced hammer out of steel, brass and aluminum. The head was about 1/2" diameter, was 2/3 steel & 1/3 brass. The handle was aluminum about 1/2" in diameter tapered to 1/4" tapped to fit into the head.

I love it! A while back I found a discarded sledge hammer head (I'm guessing it's two kilos) with no handle. I decided to make a handle out of some metal drawer runners put back to back to form a skeleton handle. I wrapped some PET ribbon around the bottom and it turned out better than I had imagined. Still, there is nothing like casting something yourself. Great job!
