Hello Eric, I'm an industrial designer, just graduated & I have my first client. My client is looking for me to produce a HiFi prototype for a light sensitive technology. My question are: 1. what would be the ideal polyurethane or material I should use to create a very clear, non distorting or refractive molded piece? 2. Also are these hard pieces sand-able? 3. Finally, is it possible to have one of these casted parts be ultra clear on 1 side and slowly gradient out to a frosted look? Can this pieces be sand blasted to achieve frosted look? Thank you, just found your channel - great info!

@TheManeliss
@TheManeliss 2 жыл бұрын
@@EricStrebelFor PU 2 solutions, pure or charged. A filler is made from mineral... Or a mix from it with other. Pure, your PU is full liquid but have dimensions problems after hardening. When i create a fine thickness mould without filler it make fine little cracks after 1 week. With a filler, it's less liquid, but little shrinking. A filler cost half of resin... So it save money. Most common filler is marble powder. If i need strong mechanical properties it's an aluminium powder mix. I can give you a link and references to you. Prices are not hide. It's only for european professionnals. But you can better understand!

Hi Eric, love your KZfaq vid's Watch em all the time, well i'm getting to end of your list so i'm looking forward to some new ones. Here's a question for you or maybe even a new video for you to do. Here we go... so my wife bought these silicon ice cube trays, they are awesome, ice comes out so easily without busting up the counter trying to get the ice out. Problem is she has no recollection where she bought them or were they a gift or something. So I have the mold, the existing ice cube tray, just wondering how you would go about replicating them and what products you'd use. I think my biggest concern is that whatever I make them with has to be food safe so I don't poison someone, ewww... now there's a thought eh lol! Anyhow, I look forward to hearing from you or maybe watching your ice cube tray video... hey I hope to get credit for the inspiration. cheers and thanks for the interesting and fun material you put out there, Tony L (Ottawa, Ontario)

A two-digit scale measures to 1/100th of a gram, not 2/10ths of a gram. Although I am not sure what tolerances are needed for the resin casting. Accurate to 1 gram may be enough if you are working with the volumes you have (100+/-1g is +/-1%, while 100+/-0.01g is 0.01% ). I am sure it won't affect the hardness of the final product unless you are really changing the ratios.
