@@ggff7591 Yes. The series could have ended right there. But I'm glad it didn't because of Season 5's kidnapping arc and then "Deep Cover" in Season 6.

This was one of the most brilliantly written and acted on screen romances I've ever seen. It was perfectly paced and beautifully performed. I can think of only one other 'slow burner' that worked this well and that's "Josh and Donna" from "The West Wing". I just wish ABC could have found a way to convince Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic to make either a season 9 or a one off movie to resolve the end of season 8. In fact I'd go so far as to say this was THE best 'police procedural' show of this century so far. Within that genre only CSI (the original Las Vegas show plus Miami) and the original NCIS have come close to getting me so invested in the stories and characters.

I'd have to agree with you, the original cast for NCIS was amazing beyond belief, the chemistry with every character was brilliant. And with CSI Las Vegas, also incredible. To be honest, I think I enjoyed NCIS a bit more though.

The most perfectly written relationship in television history was Adrian Monk and Trudy Monk. This was the most stable and longest lasting relationships ever. It lasted for the entire run of the series. And Melora Hardin, I believe, played her from start to finish. Granted that she wasn't a regular, but the character appeared in flashbacks and side deals almost every season, and she played prominently in the the series closer.

i know this comment is old but tell me you've watched the mentalist. in my opinion that one tops even this! OH MY GOD THE SLOW BURN THE PERFECT PERFECT CHARACTERS. i mean even the side characters were SO well built it has to be ome of the best shows i've ever seen written! forever obsessedddd

Miss this show and seen it just recently from start to finish, however I want to re watch it again now. Good music and the story of Becket and Castle happens to be one of the most remarkable and yet also maddening if how close they get to be together for the first few seasons. Although I must admit I liked the ending as it ended as a happy ending rather than a cliff hanger etc.
