To this day, I still believe IMO that this is the best of the Castlevania series. Long game, 3 spirit helpers, challenging as can be, and endings that are pretty satisfactory for an NES title. Glad to have had this one in my collection for years, long before it's porice increase. Got this game as a thank you from a friend whom had a spare copy. I helped him trade Shinobi III on the Genesis for an NES game I can no longer remember (he downgraded from a Genesis to an NES), and in return, I got his spare copy of Castlevania III.

Glad you enjoyed it. I think it's a great Castlevania game. I have to say I think Sypha is the best character (in my opinion, of course) that can tag along with Trevor. She might not have moves that allows her to skip parts of stages, but she's quite powerful if used right. Though, dunno about you, but I think they should remake this game in such a way where you can use everyone instead of just having one partner, since story wise, everyone did help out.

i personally think this was the best castlevania, it was difficult i didnt beat it til i was 20 something. well worth the persistence. thanks for the uploads

@shaolinlueb No problem. It is quite a nice Castlevania. I think the whole thing with having a partner is great idea. What I would like to see one day is a remake of sorts where you can control Trevor and the three others at one time (instead of having to pick one of the three to tag along). The story canon is that they were all together, so why not do something to sort of show that? It's like RE1 where the canon is both were doing stuff, though you only could use one person in the game...

I'll get to those games eventually I think.

If I recall correctly, some of the music sounds like Castlevania Original even when you clear a stage which sounds like the original but with a lot of notes changed around. I also realize that this game uses the Castlevania NES Engine.

Indeed...Hopefully Konami goes back to it's roots (as opposed to sticking with the new reboot...) and revisit this game. They have a good formula for it with Harmony of Despair. What they need to do is flesh out the levels a bit (so it's not just a big rush to the boss), and I'm sure they'd have a great game on their hands.

An option for four-player co-op would be cool...

Well, I'd imagine there were issues with getting certain games/characters/whatever in since various companies owned the rights to whatever game/character/etc. If they were to always have new characters on the show, I'd imagine it would cost the creators quite a lot of money....

Or an error on whoever translated the game / wrote the booklet / etc...Even in the Captain N cartoon, I think they made Sypha an old dude. You'd think the people who made the cartoon would have played the game and knew what the hell was going on... >_

Interesting to note, if you play the fan translation of the Japanese original, they knew Sypha was a girl the whole time. The reason they call her a guy here is the fault of whoever translated this. If you're going to translate a game... shouldn't you at least get minor details like that right? XD That's like mistranslating Trevor as a she... Trevor Belmont being a girl is a strange thought. o-o
