How do I set up. A. Laser to start setting pipe
@diggerman578 жыл бұрын
If you're using a regular rod, shoot the benchmark (point of known elevation). Figure out your H.I. (height of instrument). Measure the length of your pipe run, and find out how long each pipe is.Then find your starting, and ending invert elevation, and figure out the difference in elevation. Take that number, and divide it by the number of pipes in your run, and that will tell you how much each pipe will have to come up. Set the target for the different elevation for each pipe , and start digging.
@kennethwheeler40078 жыл бұрын
I'm. Talking about. Putting. Laser in. A. Stand in manhole. What do I set it on
@diggerman578 жыл бұрын
+Kenneth Wheeler If you mean a pipe laser, you can put it on some blocks, or on the pipe itself. Just be careful if it's in a pipe not to bump it. That will cause it to be off.
@christophersmith88505 жыл бұрын
Rise over run=grade% type in the percentage (+ x.xx) if your starting at lowest going uphill. Set laser on blocks and index it on bottom of the inlet, so if it gets bumped you know it happend. Set the target in the first pipe mark it with marker in case it slides accidentally. Mark the measurement on the flat shovel with a keel to grade the stone. Add thickness of pipe to the target height=stone grade. Rinse and repeat.

do not upload videos where you do not do the work as it is, since the box should be two feet from below and also there you see people accommodating the earth without the box and they are not supposed to do it, once you move the box no one should get into the pot anymore. This is stupidly dangerous: those fellows taking shelter in the concrete pipe would be smashed into a bloody mess if the rock would fall out of the excavator's shovel. This is when I'd stop the job. And no hard hats in 2014. Take notice, Narragansett Improvement Company, in Rhode Island.
@diggerman577 жыл бұрын
George Barlet Hello George. I disagree with your opinion, and here's why. The guys in the pipe where about 15' back from the area being excavated. At no time was anything remotely close to going over the top of them, or the pipe the were in. Also, those pipes weighed 10,000#s each. The reinforced concrete pipe walls were approximately 6" thick. Not easily breakable. They were down there because we were just about down to grade, so they needed to check the grade, and fine tune it by hand. As far as the hardhats go, you're right, some guys didn't have their hardhats on. What you're not seeing or feeling from your side of the computer screen is that it was raining and just above freezing temperatures. Needless to say, it was pretty shitty out, so cut them a little slack for wanting to keep their heads warm. Beside being right under the excavator, which nobody was, there were no overhead hazards. So I'll tell you like I tell some other people who fancy themselves as safety Czars. Put up some videos of your jobs and lets see if every aspect is free of any and all faults. I am willing to bet you can't.
@georgeb.50727 жыл бұрын
I understand your opinion, but you are confusing pipe weight with resistance to impact: the fact that the pipes are 10,00 pounds does not mean a thing. 6" thickness of concrete will not resist impact from a 5,000 pounds falling from 5 feet. Moreover that concrete pipe has a manufacturer's warranty of 4-5,000 psi when surrounded by material such as bedding and haunching. If the very large rock from the begnning of the video fell, the may not get completely crushed but would transfer enough kinetic energy to kill someone without protection. As for missing the hard hat, cold weather will not protect the fellow missing the hardhat. I'd advise consulting your local OSHA inspector if you think I'm wrong. According to the trench box you were using and taking in consideration the approximate intrusion of the pipe in the trench box, the size of your shovel, the distance between the fellows in the pipe and the shovel with the rock is 5' or less. That is dangerous! As for putting up videos of my job, I'd rather not: too much work chasing all workers and getting disclosure signatures. Take care
@diggerman577 жыл бұрын
George Barlet Hello again George. My point about the pipe weight was to say it was stout, not indestructible. I've demoed this size pipe with a 36 ton excavator. It is not as easy as you think. Regardless, the boulders never came anywhere near going over the pipe. FYI the box is 22' long, the pipe was sticking in about 5' into the box, and where I was booming up out of the box was about 5' in from my side of the box, so they were about 12' back. So unless the boulders were to roll backwards out of the bucket, and somehow miss the dipper stick. They would have to travel a minimum of 12' horizontally through the air without dropping vertically until they manage to arrive over the pipe, and then drop on the pipe. Also, I agree with you about the no hardhat thing. I just cut them a little slack because of the shitty wet and cold weather. Normally everyone is good about that, but honestly is this particular case I can think of worse things other than that. You sound like you've had training, and experience in the field. So you must understand that videos are interesting and fun to watch, but don't always show the context of the situation. I've also had hundreds of hours of safety training, thousands of hours of operator training, tens of thousands of hours of seat time, and have a good working relationship with my local OSHA inspectors, due to joint training that our local OSHA has done with our union training facility. We always try to be within OSHA regs, and we have a stellar safety record, but sometimes you just have to do the best you can, as long as there is no immanent danger (according to OSHA CFR and common sense, not some general duty clause "opinion"). Reasonable OSHA inspectors understand that and suggest improvements instead of slapping you with an instant fine. Good day Sir.

@diggerman577 жыл бұрын
digger dan Hi digger dan. So what you're saying is the laborers have to get out for every pipe? That's not very productive. I'm pulling the rocks away from them, but lets say one does roll back and block the pipe. If for some reason they couldn't wait for me to pull it out, they could walk the 50' or so back to the manhole. The backfill on the backside of the box is sloped down, so that's ok. The box can be up to 2' off the bottom, not 18" like you said. Although the box is around 3' off the bottom, that's the only place we were out of compliance. The conditions were such that it was still safe even though it wasn't exactly to OSHA spec. Thanks for your opinion, but don't be so angry. Sheesh... Everything else was by the book. Ladder was within 25', and stuck out beyond the box 3'. The top of the box was up 18" from the top of the cut. It was fine.

diggerman57 the two laborers in this whole are fucking idiots. Aside from not having a hard hat, something that only a fucking Idiot would forget when he goes into the hole, they’re standing between a concrete pipe and a fucking bucket. Just plain stupid. Never mind the fact that their jumping through pipe while it’s moving. That shield is plentyy big enough for them to stand off to the side, or even on top of it. It doesn’t slow production if they aren’t complete fucking idiots, they should be able to see when his subgrade is ready to be checked, and when they are ready for rock. I’m not sure how long you boys been doing this, but if yo stay in long enough you’ll see things like a rock caught in the bucket assembly, and fall and hit someone in the head with no hard hat, or an operator who may be he best in town, make a small accident and smash his bucket against the pipe or shield wall with a man in between because they were standing in the wrong spot. Practice good habits. You can have production and be safe. My crew is safer than this bunch of fucking cowboys, and I promise we would destroy you any day of the week in production.
