I'm just wrapping up servicing my old direct drive D4 that I bought last year. It was a little damp underneath when I bought it so I removed the skid plates to see what was going on. I replaced a few gaskets, installed all new filters, fluids and cleaned the screens. I accidently knocked a small piece of cardboard into the flywheel clutch housing after I removed the starter. I don't have access to an O-scope to see where it went and spent over an hour hoping to snag it with a piece of wire, all in vain. The nice thing about this tractor is that it takes 30W oil for everything: engine, flywheel clutch housing, tranny, finals, etc.

That's exactly what I'm doing to my D5 direct drive.

An old man taught me- turn a 5 gallon bucket sideways or upside down when trying to pour oil like that- it allows the air in and flows way better and faster with less mess and splash etc.

Love the old iron. Next time you have to crawl under for wrench turning drive it up on some 2x lumber. May help you have better clearance underneath.

Guess I am claustrophobic but I drive my crawler up on some 4 x 6 or 6 x 6 timbers to provide a little more crawl space. Especially when getting under the transmission or rear end.

Does it have a inter cooler if not then it could have a busted block or head gasket or crack head or a bad piston sleeve hope u can get her right cause they ain't nothing like that old school stuff just found your channel going to watch the rest of your vids

I'm sure it been that old it doesn't have a inter cooler and I'm sure you already know all about the other stuff keep up the good work you will get it fixed and lined out...

No intercooler, but it does have a crack in the block and it leaks out a bit. My Uncle bought this dozer in the early 80s (I think) with that crack in the block. Used it on oil leases for years that way, but I think it's gotten a lot worse.

@@robertscottII hate to hear that but it looks like it could make a real good dozer if a man had the money to fix it up hope it goes to where you can turn its life back around.....
