It’s important to establish dominance with a cat. It’s also important to understand the line between dominance and abuse. You want to show the cat that you are stronger and the leader, but you also want the cat to trust you that you won’t harm it. With a couple of the more aggressive cats, I gently hold them by the scruff whilst they’re sitting/laying then kneel behind them and lay over them with my elbows at the sides of them. Do not put any weight on the cat, just show them that you are on top of them. Once you’re in position, let go of the scruff, they will probably try and move away but each time they start to walk away lift them up and bring them closer without breaking position. The cat should feel comfortable standing/sitting/staying under you but understand that it can’t leave from under you unless you allow it. In the wild, the feline family show dominance by being on top physically. That’s why owners who let their cats sleep or sit on them generally have little obedience over their cat. You are allowed to do this, my cats often come to me to rest on me, snuggle and sleep, but they also know I’m the dominant one. You can’t change your cat’s personality. It’s who he is. He will probably always be like that at heart. You can however make him do the equivalent of respect you. He will attack his toys and whatever he’s curious with, but will over time be a lot less aggressive with you - and should listen when you say no or down in a firm tone. Cats also understand tone. Associate a firm tone with bad actions and displays of dominance (anything which makes them dependent on you for safety like carrying the cat close to your chest). Also understand there is a difference between tone and volume. A firm tone does not mean yelling. Never yell at a cat. It just makes them scared and trust you less.

@@Samuel.55 Thank you so much for your detailed and informative advice both my wife and I really appreciate your time. I will use that advice and make attempts to follow the instructions. Two months have passed since writing that and his behaviour has not improved , infact , it has got worse and his dominating ways are becoming more extreme. His attacking has become much more aggressive, not in a malicious way just much more powerful as he has got bigger and his scratching now makes cuts. He is being playful but he bites our faces in the night when we sleep and runs around demolishing the house like a bulldozer but we love him and will continue to work with him in hope of gaining some ground as time goes on. I just tried your method of leaning over him and he got extremely angry and tried to run. I pulled him back a few times but in the end I felt that he was becoming distressed. He is due to have his nuts removed in the next month so we are hoping that it will bring down his testosterone a little and that may help. When that had been done I would like to write back again and let you know how his behaviour is then. Once again I thank you for the advice and appreciate your experience. As I stated this is our first cat and as he is learning to live with us we are learning to live with him and hopefully in the end we can settle and all know our boundaries. One other thing is we understand what you said about tone, sometimes we do end up yelling when he breaks something and it doesn't make a bit of difference to him but a firm tone can make him stop in his tracks and notice us. We have learnt to be patient! He has had a fun day today though and has enjoyed opening his Christmas gifts , eating lots of turkey and playing with the visitors! Many thanks and best wishes Wes

Those cats probably aren't even starving, humans do it all the time, why would an owner even do something like that to their cat? I can see she's opened the packet so she probably would give it to the cats after. Teasing cats are normal because every cat can't get their treats when they want it.

@@janfesolai32 still if I place a plate of chicken in front of that female when she is hungry (not starving), I will get a twist by tying her. Move the plate away from her, that will be such a fun event. It's amusing to see how a human will react..

Plus, yes, I know it's teasing I have a cat. The thing is it's normal and how do you seriously know that she didn't give the cat the food after? Your assuming something about teasing the cat, even though that lady would probably give the cat food after the video. It's not like she would tease her cat and make her starve, that would be cruel. Also why would the lady open the food to not give it to the cat? Thanks, but you made a mistake in what you said because she wouldn't make her cat starve. It would die if it starved.
