I almost lost my cat to an eagle night before last. My husband was out making sure all the tools got put away. As he came around the corner of the house, he saw our little 8 lb. cat and picked her up. He said he heard a noise above him and there was an eagle pulling up about 10' above him. Now I'm scared to let her out without supervision. I have seen them circling the sky's of our neighborhood every summer but, that was too close.

This was gd. That cat slowly began to understand that maybe he is the hunted.

The poor cat would probably put up a fight but the eagle would just simply destroy the cat.

Eagle was definitely going to win that and the cat knew it.

If only humans could understand risk management as well as that cat.

Must be a juvenile bald eagle, when I was in Juneau, Alaska I saw really large eagles roosting together when visiting a totem pole center. Didn't see any cats hanging out around there.

Frankly, I wouldn’t give the cat much of a chance against a bald eagle. Cats are used to small birds like sparrows and robins but this is a whole different ballgame and the cat knows it. Marvelous video.

When I lived in Alaska in the Air Force, I cautioned our new neighbor (a Captain and his wife who had recently arrived from the lower 48, and had a family cat) about the many Bald and Golden Eagles in the area. To which the Captain's wife said "Well, we try not to let our cat out too much because she has a habit of catching and killing birds" She had no clue who was facing the danger there, or how big and dangerous Eagles are to cats and small dogs. But the Eagle in this vid was just being nosy, looking for an easy meal, like table scraps or garbage thrown out the door. Alot of the more 'domesticated' Eagles hang out around human populations, and become beggars and opportunists who snatch all kinds of crap. Youre not supposed to feed them, but lots of people do anyway.

Just saw a video of a Bold Eagle fly off with a cat in its claw.

Bald eagle was essentially stealing the cats plaything(mouse). The cat was being territorial but not being driven by hunger did not know what to make of the encroaching eagle. In nature you always go for the easiest way to sustain yourself. The cat more than likely has a food dish inside and the eagle went for the mouse.

Would have been a ripper if the bird just went and sat in the cat's chair.

Instinctively, animals look at each other as predator and prey. This is one of those instances where neither knows if they can take on the other, so it always turns into a stare down with each of them running from each other.

Kinda a neat watching both animals being a bit cautious. But the eagle knows it's the boss and just strolls up and takes whatever and whenever it wants. The eagle doesn't have a care in the world.

I heard my dog ( a small poodle/terrier mix ) barking frantically one day in the back yard so I ran out to see what was going on. Turns out he was having a face off with a barn owl that had taken a squirrel out and was eating it right there in the grass. My dog obviously has more bravado than brains! Lol. That owl could easily have taken him down too.

Cat may have been on the eagles mind for a meal too. Neighbor jogs, and last year saw an eagle flying low and towards him on a country road. Seemed to have difficulty gaining altitude, but when flying just overhear could see the eagle had a cat hanging from its talons.

They are both very cautious. Do eagles normally stroll across lawns ? If the cat was really scared it could of run away or gone into the cat door. Wonderfully patient person taking the video- even though their cat may have been scooped up and flown away .

I love all these cat people that say, "my cat could take down a grizzly bear". That eagle was never scared, and there's a really good reason for that.

The Eagle is a scavenger and is just looking for an easy meal. That Cat is cautious but he knows he's in no danger as long as he can keep an eye on him.

My dad once mounted a bald eagle the game warden gave him after he chased off the poachers who killed it. For a museum. It was sad, but at least it's preserved for us to admire.

Just a few weeks ago in central Illinois a bald eagle just snatched up a 14lb min pin dog and flew off with it. They finally found what was left of her days later. Who new they could get something that heavy. Felt so bad for the lady she was fishing at a lake with friends when it happened.

Nice video, nature on display! Cat in the open unaware of an eagle overhead doesn't have a chance. But with any awareness of the eagle, the cat will get away nearly all of the time. Eagles practically never fight with their prey, not designed for that. They set talons and it's over. On the other hand, cats do often fight with their prey. In this case, a well feed cat would have been foolish not to let eagle have the mouse. Starving cat, a whole nuther story...

If the cat was a Labrador retriever this would have been a 30-second video...

i think the eagle did not attack as it was not sure about the space - it usually attacks by surprise from the sky, but the cat kept close to the building and never got far away enough into open space, so it decided to land there anyway and have a check-walk

I love wild birds, but I love my pet cats a lot more: if I had that Eagle flying close by to my house I would make every effort to chase it away every chance I could.

As long as the cat stays near and under the yard furniture, Baldy has no chance to pounce and use its wings to its advantage. Grounded and moving about slowly the eagle can potentially fall victim to the cat.

I have a bad feeling that’s going to go bad

Cat was smart to not to mess with an eagle, but the eagle was dumb to stay on the ground. If my 16lb cat got the jump on the eagle's back it could be over pretty quick for the bird. And even if the eagle won the battle, it could die from infection. Cat bites kill birds more often than not.
