I talk about how we decide how a trench is dug. Do I finally get to eat my burrito?

The boys in the trench would need SCUBA gear if you tried that down here where I live. Water table is only 7 feet deep here. And out where my parents live I think its only 3-4 feet deep.

Given that Preston Pipelines and Ernest E. Pestana were based in basically the same neighborhood, I'm wondering if Preston picked up any of Ernie's people when he finally closed up his underground business. Mr. Pestana passed away in 2009.

I dont know how you continued on with that trench with the drop off right behind you, I would have painted myself in a corner and been screwed. I was hoping that part was in the video lol great work brother.
@TheLeverMonkey3 жыл бұрын
That was before I started the channel. I only had 1 battery and a 32gb card. the ditch had a 45* turn and was only 5 feet deep at the bottom of the slope.

The fact that you said watch for a color change in the soil is important. We just dug 400' of soil to put 4 4" sch40 pipie for cable. What is not normal is seeing a black coal slag coal layer left from steam engines then sand above that then 3/4" stone on top of that. We did see some wood on top of we think concrete electrical duct (750 DC). We didn't dig to find out we were low enough. Thanks for your info. We put tape above most times when we direct bury cables. But now we use pvc for safety and pulling.
@TheLeverMonkey3 жыл бұрын
We tape all our lines as well.
@tucobenedicto1093 жыл бұрын
@@TheLeverMonkey for direct burial we do too. But the tape is conductive and unsafe when you have as third rail. We use plastic caution tape. We did that for a dig out east with a ditch witch.
@TheLeverMonkey3 жыл бұрын
@@tucobenedicto109 We do the same for gass line.

I have enjoyed your videos. Scale is hard to tell. How deep are you digging? Also, It would be interesting to see how much rock they are separating with tthe Skully(?) bucket. It doesn't look like you are encountering much that is 6" plus.
@TheLeverMonkey3 жыл бұрын
About 19-20 feet deep. This was the east side of the job the west had much larger rock.

Is there a safety concern in leaving that much open trench? It seems more susceptible to cave in. Why not backfill closer to the work area?
@TheLeverMonkey3 жыл бұрын
It is normal for us to leave 500 feet open at a time. On bigger jobs we run a three crew system trenching, pipe laying, and backfill crew. Each crew works at there speed, each trying to catch the other. we make a game of it.

as long as its sloped right theyre safe and hes doing it right for the soil condition

If you throw the spoils out far enough you dont have to waste a lot of time sweeping the spoils out of the way,,, that is rough on the swing gear, throw the spoils out far enough if some rolls back flat swipe and move on

excuse me Google translation for the safety of the personnel who work at depth there! in France it is forbidden! it is imperative to put shields from 1.40 meters even in a hard and flared ground! you have no security check in the United States! in France they stop the work pour la sécurité pour le personnel qui travaille à la profondeur là !en France c'est interdit ! il faut impérativement mettre des blindages à partir de 1.40 mètre même dans un terrain dur et évasée! vous avez pas de contrôle sécurité aux États-Unis! en France ils font arrêter le chantier
