I think I would have preferred trying to expand towards the 6/5 instead of taking the wood port towards the end, that gets you closer to taking longer road and your brick is really precious so using 2 to build 1 settle I think may have been a mistake. But really interesting game and great commentary!

I think you’re totally right I figured the 8 being a free card for you was really powerful and allowed you to get to the 6 5 and connect but completely underestimated blacks potential. Got fortunate at the end no one taking road. Thanks for the content and analysis! Definitely would not have won without your vids😂

I did a thing where I didn't rob anyone and I still won in Catan. sort of giving the players a noble gesture and because of that maybe the Catan gods gave me some favorable rolls

That’s funny! The way the name came about was because after every online tournament win, I would post a DJ Khalid gif of him saying “another one”. Eventually, I decided to create this alt as an undercover tournament account in Catan Community… everyone figured out it was me pretty quickly.

I totally agree on Black severe mispaly in buying that many devs in the end. I think it's a very bad thing to do in general, if army is locked already by someone else. If he went for road, yeah he could have lost it eventually but at least he would have secured more settlments spots, in the end it would have taken him only 2 roads.

Well played game, you cant win them all. I think starting on the 6-3 sheep port would've been better. I understand that the 12-3-6 does give you the 4-11-3 expansion but I think you have enough spots (6-5 | 10Wood | 8Sheep) and getting more wheat and a bit more brick seems better to me. Of course the high amount of sheep you got allowed you to get trades and have a mobile hand due to the 3:1, but I think the 2:1 port (although with less sheep) would've done more for you. Maybe it leads to your 8 sheep getting soloblocked a fair bit though.

Appreciate the consideration. A few people mentioned 63 and I certainly understand the merit. I am usually not a big fan of plowing players in ranked matches that I do not know, as this can lead to resentment and bitterness in the early stages of the game. Keeping black in the game took A LOT of pressure off of me in the opening phases. You also have to deal with giving up more opportunities to orange with the top of the board. Without knowing these players, I still stand by the 6 12 3 personally, regardless of the result.

@@dandydrew Fair enough, you cant know if your opponents will let their emotions get to them. By Orange I assume you meant Green, I hadnt considered quite how much space they would be able to lock down (though do they even get enough brick to capitalize on it?). I don't understand why you never tried to make a road play. After you build on 6 5 no one can really contest you

That’s definitely a consideration I could have pushed for more going into the middle game. I tried to get my production up as much as I could before pushing for road but the plan didn’t work out with the rolls and the sub-optimal solo block on me. I never had the road road settle in my hand, so dropping 2 roads does run the risk of getting plowed by black or orange. Didn’t work out…It happens! Thanks - DD
