Here is game number #2 of the Saturday night Catan Community tournament qualifier. You play 3 games and the top 16 will qualify to play in the Sunday playoffs. I absolutely love playing in tournaments and using voice chat! I'm super excited to share these games in general.

@@darthskixx2263 It's not a good spot, I will overproduce on wheat with no ore or sheep to go with it. The only reason to take 8/4/3 would be the wood but I can just build to the 6/2 by taking 9/10/2. And with wood being so common on the board I should have no problem pairing it with my brick.

Table talk was great here!! Shows the difference between top tier players and average players. I’ve learned a lot watching you DandyDrew! Starting to get some wins with the side by side! All the way up to top 15 in Virginia and almost top 500 in the US! You and Dylighted are new automatic watches for me on KZfaq along with BradOwenPoker.

Fun game, interesting strategies, skillful table talk. Great video. Thanks for showing dice stats, even adding another split second wouldn't hurt. Worth mentioning the 3 ore was just as productive as the 9 ore, they both rolled 5 times, which massively slowed down light blue and helped everybody else.

Dark blue needed to insist on being fed road in a way that didn’t help dandy so much. Dandy needed him to take road so he had all the leverage. The 2 3 for 1 trades really only benefited dandy. Gg

I believe those trades were more than fair considering the alternative is I 3:1 the resources myself and not help blue with road. If you look at blue’s hand in the final turn, he pretty much has double settle for the win if I can’t produce the final roll or city.

He was at 6 pts and you were at 8 before the first 3:1 trade. He accepted that trade leaving you with 9 cards which gave you city for 9 pts. You absolutely needed him to take road so he could have asked for a lot more. You say the alternative was to use your port, but you know that would be a losing play because black wins easily if blue doesn’t connect.

the table talk game is next level, but when you are good enough to track every players hand, you are essentially playing each players hand for them. and figuring out what their win condition is compared to yours.

Absolutely. This is the challenge of good communication is that it has to be aligned with the players’ individual goals and plans on the board. People think good table talking is just sweet talking but really, there’s deeper elements of strategy and social finesse that’s required.

Sungdripw. Fell to the trap that is OWS. Failure to balance resource production early. You need to focus on getting 4 nodes and making these cities early. Else once your opponents start to city up. You will be negative and fail to be in position to counter. Dev for Soldier is a strategy. But like road can be taken away. Whereas Dev for VP is a luck trap.

I think for blue it made sense to keep road at the end of the game otherwise with a settle he ends up with 1 point less. So I think this was played correctly by blue.

I think light blue got a little too caught up in fighting army early with Drew. I feel like after he pulled the 1st dev and got the first settle, if he focused the city and let Drew take army initially the blocks would've gone to Drew a lot more and light blue would've been able to take back army long term with the higher production.

Personally, I strongly dislike games like this. It makes me reconsider how much I actually like the game of Catan. The passive-aggressive table talk vibes just really seem like bad sportsmanship. I don't know if I want to play - or watch - a game where the sole goal of most of the players is to deflect blame and tension onto others. Doesn't seem very fair, nice, or honest.

Most of that game for me is balancing the table in a way that keeps the game going while attempting to pick up small advantages along the way. I understand why you might not like this kind of game but I was forced in a position to scrap and fight my way to a chance. If I went mute, I absolutely lose this game. Also it didn’t help that black made it clear before the game that he wanted to destroy me. 😀

Its is not true that in 4 rols (1 Orbit) the probability of roling at least 2 nines vs at least one 3 is the same. Actually it is 3 times more likly to roll at least one 3 (21% chance vs only 7% chance 2 nines). So its always the 3 there. Hope this might help someone to decide what to block. If he knew it.. nicely talked mate, cause this seems very reasonable with the 9 having 2y the probability of the 3 (for a Single roll!)

I did know that, but a lot of players don't since at first glance you could easily think that's how it works if you don't have a good understanding of probability, which is why I said it ;) btw if anyone wants to calculate something like this just plug it into an binomial probability calculator online in case you don't know the formula.

No worries. Everyone will have their take on voice chat games like this. I absolutely lose if I don’t engage the table and deal with the push back I get - Black made it very clear before the game that he wanted to take me, which he certainly tried.
