The Canning Stock Route in the Mid West region of WA is one of these tracks. It spans 1900 kms from Wiluna to Halls Creek and is arguably the most remote 4 wheel drive track in the world. If you’re a 4wd enthusiast in Australia, chances are this one is on your bucket list and you’re prepared to spend 10-20 days driving and camping in isolation to witness the breathtaking country side surrounding the track. Our group of 5 cars was aiming to complete this 10,000 KM journey in 4 weeks and we had been planning it for over a year. But things don’t always go to plan….
In this episode we start the trip from Melbourne and head to the Eyre peninsula to check out Coffin Bay & Port Lincoln National Park. We also tee off for golf across the Nullarbor and have a few vehicle Dramas.

i did the canning stock route in my subaru wagon when i lived in Kambalda in WA , its remote but its not hard four wheel driving

if a subaru can do it,,it must be bitumen..we had a subi in the 4x4 club, registered.. came on 1 trip, not hard. crickets..no clearence, no suspension travel, no room. even prado,s strugle on easy tracks. mate has an 80 series, wont buy anything else. 4.2tdi, manual, 2 diffs. coils. no ifs, no computer,. no auto, . i like my yank stuff. not jeeps.. f series..

So wanna see this, planning the canning stock route for July 24 myself. Show me the way!!!! Hopefully my trip starts out better than td42 did, "kettle life", gees he'd been spewing 🤮. ZD30 life for me, going well thus far, hopefully I retain the smile it puts on my face 😄.

LS, have problems. cam, followers, oil, ect.. not a good choice. diesel rules.. for long trips.. should of looked at a bmw 3.0 tdi. ditch the inlet butterflies, egr, turbo, new turbo. 300hp..economical.. unlike your LS convert.. i bought a salvage bm, 170 ks, for 3k.. popular convert for the last 20 yrs in u.k., u.s., eu. yes,,were slow here.. plus, for some reason, that v8 sound blinds you.. like the 79 series.. garbage truck, engine.. i have a super duty, 4.2tdi. german, built in brazil. std has 510nm, 140kw. mine, with a bigger, turbo, nothing else, has 700nm. 240 hp.. 14 lt 100. will tow all up 8.5t.. 4.11 diffs, 35,s..no computer, no glow plugs. hows your ls.. even the foton tunland diesel. 2.8 cummins. has more guts than a nissan..std 4.2 nissan or toyota, 100kw av., pathetic.. a 79 f100, 4x4, is built to stand 400 hp.. yanks build sht for the biggest engine, not to drive out the factory..

@@harrywalker968Here in Oz, the Barra is the right choice. Barras are used in FG Falcon taxis, and typically go 1M kms before the car being detaxified and sold to the next owner, for $4k who loves it. Barra = 1M kms of reliability and parts are dirt cheap and easy to obtain here in oz. Tonnes and of aftermarket supoort also. And the barra is an under square long stroke design, ie a torque monster. I own 3, one a factory turbo with 1100nm at the tyres.

Really cool video, congrats. If i could give you some critique. I personally prefer minimum music. I'd rather hear chit chat, roaring engines or just background noise. Music kills the illusion that I'm on sharing the trip with you.

Share the TD pain, exact same outcome for me in the Sandy Desert. But engine was rebuilt b 4 the trip! TD life is a lottery...nice vid guys..

@nickunw yeah we limped it through for a week, then went home. A crate motor is prolly the best option, but at 17k it hurts the wallet badly.

Wouldn’t call the CSR a “4x4 track”. It’s a desert track full of history and beauty. You just need a 4x4 to travel on it

A very annoying one! Intake elbow hoseclamp came lose and the metal elbow popped off under boost and caused a dent :(

A marketplace TD42 - what could possibly go wrong? I don't understand the thinking behind a 30 year old engine being a good idea, given the amount of knowledge that exists on why they boil when they get older. They can be built not to boil, but why would anyone these days start with a 45KW dirty diesel?

@@DesignedandBuilt 2nd choice behind LS+4l60E. Nothing beats the sound of a V8 in a GU. Except maybe the sound of a 350 chev in a 60 series - but that's not an option for a GU :)

@@nickunw The fans are waiting for the inevitable. The rumble of the V8 beats the psht of the inline 6 every time. Patrols were designed by Nissan for future LS swaps, after all :)
