Catching bass in lily pads can seem like a daunting task somedays because of the sheer number of lily pads in an area. This can make fishing through them almost a nightmare. This is why it is important to fish in the right areas in order to maximize your chances of catching the most bass possible! I have water lily pads at my place. The only thing I'll throw on them is a weightless Senko or Yum Dinger. Any weight on the bait just makes it sink and then you're fishing the bottom and getting hung up in the stems and pads for the rest of the cast. As it is, my Senko weightless gets hung up half the time! I cast it so it lands on a pad then hop it across then basically by dragging the bait with small hops and, then I let it fall through a hole in the pads. That's when they hit it. I am however next time going to remove my leader and let that braid eat!

Thanks, Johnathon. I have been bass fishing for over 50 years, but I am still learning. This video made me think about pads a little differently than before. I moved back to Florida for the 3rd time. I am in Suwannee County, North Florida, this time around. I lived in Fort Lauderdale back in 1985 and on Lake Juliana in Auburndale around 1990. I kept moving back to New Jersey because of my Mom and Dad. But it looks like I'm here for the long haul this time around.....FishOn....jimi

Went fishing at a small lake in michigan and almost one entire section was nothing but Lilly pads

Lilly pads. Get on em. Coolest thing when bass go under lilly pads on a clam day is, cast a frog, land it right on top of a lilly. DO NOTHING! Just wait. If their under there youll start seeing the lillys move as the bass move into position to strike. This can take well over a minute if their sluggish on hot days. Immediately the water just explodes, as soon as fish crashs back under, set the hook. Youll be in the fight of your life. Ive seen so many that are impatient and as soon as frog hits a lilly they start reeling. If their is a bass within 10' of the frog hitting the lilly, they will soon be under it to take it. Just be paitent and watch. If nothing give it a couple twitches and wait before reeling. Normally thatll get you a reaction strike.

Thanks! I have little patience but, I'll try it. One thing though, you have to move the frog off of the pad and onto an open water spot within the pads first for the bass to get it, right? Tight lines!

@@robertbrost7777 Don't have to move it. What ive seen is they will explode through the lillys knockin the frog where ever and when they come down their on top of it engulfing it in their mouths. I've often wondered if this is why they come up with so much force and while in the air they watch where it goes. Also they will come up like it's a short strike and knock the frog wherever but they don't have it. I think they go back bellow the lillys and wait for the twitch of it to move and strike again. Remember their predator fish. They either strike because their hungry, you've made them mad and their agitated and strike or just because they feel like it. That's what predators do.

@@robertbrost7777 To be fair on this though, not all lillys have fish under them, you have to find them. Keep that in mind. But I also texas rig with 1/2 oz bullet weight and creature baits and punch through lillys. I do this, well because its fun nad im locating where the fish are. I pitch it out, let it pjnch through, reel up slack, wait a 5 seconds or so, give it a couple light twitchs, let it rest a few seconds and so on. I do thisx3 or 4 times, pop it up and out and to next open hole of water.. It also gives me tons of practice for pitching. I can almost pitch to a spot I want 30 feet out. If there is a fish under there, they will go after it. However, this isnt really an explosive top water hit. This is more of a sluggish grab it in their mouth and take it. In some cases you don't even know they have it until you jig it upwards. This to me is extremly fun and at best have a darn good rod to pull them up and out of the weeds.
