CATCH and COOK on the Rocks 🎣 Making Fish Tacos from This Monkey Faced Eel 🎣

7 жыл бұрынWas out trying to film the good old Lingcod catch and cook. Daniel and I went on the Jetty with some squid and we knew there was a good chance to catch a rockfish, ling, cabezon or Monkeyface Prickle Back Eel. Ended up catching the latter and decided to cook it since eels this size don't come around too often. Made our fire, filleted, gutted, skinned and cleaned the fish before seasoning it with salt, pepper, and mesquite seasoning. Once the fish was cooked Daniel threw it all together in a taco and I made myself a bowl with cilantro, avocado, onions, salsa and butter. Highly recommended whether you cook it on the rocks or take it home and enjoy it that way!

chimyshark I mean, all Dep. of Fish & Wildlife in different states are going to try and enact regulations they think strikes the best balance for conservation. Maybe the thinking is that a hooked crab has a higher mortality rate and since they have to be a certain size to keep, they'd rather people not target crabs like that and end up inadvertently killing more undersized ones? Friends in Oregon & WA think it's dumb that we can keep female dungeness and they can't but I have to remind them that their season in year round and ours only 8mo, plus we have hella more people fishing in CA than WA or OR, so if we could crab year round-- even if we couldn't keep females-- it'd probably not be sustainable for the crab population. All about finding a balance. As an aside, if you were surf fishing in CA and hooked into a crab you'd have to release it..... but you could also run after it after you've released it and catch it by hand and that would be OK lol

I totally understand that, that's why it's illegal to spear lobsters where I'm from, but as you can clearly see, this rock crab was caught by accident. It was legal-sized so it would be fine to count it toward the 35/day limit. I say- it should be prohibited to TARGET crabs using hook and line, but to catch one by accident and still be required to release it is a little idiotic.

Preaching to the choir my friend :) I hook dungies all the time while surfcasting for perch that go after my gulp sandworms and wish I could just throw them in the bucket.... which is why I calmly release them in a shallow part of the surf, run to put my pole down, then run back to hunt. it. down. 8 times out of 10 I can re-catch it by hand and THEN it goes in the damn bucket.
