That BBQ isn't called a Yakitori. It's called a Shichirin (or Sumibi Conro for the more modern name). Yakitori is skewered chicken.

@Jam Tea "That BBQ isn't called a Yakitori." Small portable grills have been marketed in the U.S. as "yakitori grills" for decades. People know it's a misnomer but most aren't bothered by it.
@jamtea573
@jamtea573 3 жыл бұрын
@@tosht2515 oh god...why?! Weird America strikes again I guess. Still, this is the equivalent of calling a convection oven "a roast chicken" in how wrong it is. Well, in the UK people call Japanese Curry, Katsu curry or just "Katsu", which just means "cutlet" in Japan. There's even a very small but vocal movement trying to stop people making this cringy faux pas.
@tosht2515
@tosht2515 3 жыл бұрын
@Jam Tea It's simply pure business and marketing. Yakitori is popular so advertising something as a yakitori grill makes good marketing sense when introducing a product to the consumer. Same when people call a grill a BBQ. BBQ is *_not_* a grill but people say it all the time and everyone understands. See how that works? BBQ...not a grill.

I used to catch Monkey Face Eel all the time off the coast of Monterey. Between Monterey and Pacific Grove. That's when I lived in Monterey, CA. I used to make poke poles from broom sticks. Stick your pole in the rocks. Used Squid for bait. Monkey Face is delicious. If I had a female, I would take her roe and saute them in butter.
