It's been a year since the last catch & cook. This one went a lot better than the last, more delicious too! Shout out to my brother for the shovel!

When we get fresh clam in the Philippines, my mom let the clam soak in salt water. So that the clams will spit out the sand inside of them. So that when you eat ,your not eating the sand too.

In the PNW (wher this video was filmed) we do the same, but with some oatmeal in the water to encourage the clams to feed.

When I lived for a while in the Dominican Republic I remember spending a Saturday on some long empty beach near the border with Haiti and these local guys I came across who were so welcoming - we dug up clams, caught crabs and finally some kind of perch caught in a small river in these woven cane cages they had - and then later in the day everything was boiled up in a big cauldron they had brought with rice boiled in another pot. They added the juice of wild limes, some local herbs and salt they brought. I produced a big bottle of Brugal rum which I had in the car and the mood was perfect. One guy invited me to spend the night with his family in their very simple banana leaf and coconut leaf thatched hut in their little hamlet. I had brought my tent but they wouldn't hear of it. The next day I drove back to Santo Domingo and my high pressured job thinking 'that day, and that food and those simple good people who were so kind to an utter stranger, this, this I will never forget".

If you set the live clams in clear salt water, right out of the bay, they will relax and pump a lot of the sand out of their interiors.

I've never purged or cooked any sort of bivalve. I've heard to use saltwater, but with cornmeal added as an irritant. Any thoughts? I'm in the desert in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA so it's not something I run into much.

I just moved back to Birch Bay/Blaine in Washington a week ago. Been away for two years, and can't wait to harvest some fresh clams. (New England) Clam chowder is my favorite. I'll make a huge pot of it, and share it with all my neighbors. Can't wait. Happy to be back next to the water. I missed the salt water smell in the air. Sadly, the cottonwood blooms are killing me right now. Keep up the great vids. -Trystian

@@jimmygimbal It's easy and delicious. Bacon, onions, potatoes, butter, heavy whipping cream, salt, pepper, garlic, and of course the clams. I also add a dash of nutmeg. It's too bad that I can't harvest clams right now due to red tide in our area.
