Catch King Salmon in Early Summer! - Tips on using "Wingers"

Capt. Bill Saiff III plys the waters of the "Shipping Lanes" for Kings in early Summer. Late June through early July is called the "HOT ZONE"! King Salmon stack up along the Shipping Lane Wall and the Saiff Fleet uses downrigger techniques to target these fish. The "WINGER" is an in-line trolling device that help the angler spread his downrigger presentation. Watch as a Mature King is taken using this technique.

How do you keep dipsys from tangling with winger riggers? do you have to set 'em on 3 or keep them above the ball?

Hey bill, so I guess I don't understand the point of the wingers. You're saying that when the bite is tough to put 4 flasher flies close together. However I was always taught to get rid of the flashers and go to less to not spook them?

No, apparently I wasn't clear.......The WINGERS help spread the pattern at all times and they especially help when the bite is tough. The point of 4 Flashers all at the same level was just to illustrate that the spread of the WINGERS would keep everything untangled. We would not ever recommend building a pattern in that fashion. During Late Staging, when we drop to 3 riggers - it gives you additional spread. Most fishermen are dropping to 3 rigger sets for the entire season.. The WINGERS will definitely help you stay with a productive 4 rig pattern that produces 90% of the time.

Bill Saiff Outdoors okay that makes more sense! We fish out of Lake Michigan and I've never heard of them. We'll give them a try! How often do you guys run flashers back more than that 25' ?

flyboiii28 quite a bit late on the season. I like to tailgun the "off Winger" between 35 and 60 ft back.
