Fantastic, it captures the feeling of discomfort perfectly, especially the awkward sign off from a bad date. The ending is surprising and gives you a moment to think. It might seem light-hearted but reflects how a lot of guys don't see the issue with 'catching up' with a girl when she explicitly states she is fine getting home on her own 👏🏼
@midnightwind8067
@midnightwind8067 3 жыл бұрын
Lol. Even though she was far from fine. She could have bridged the gap and enjoyed the walk home. But mature responses are often hard to come by on today’s crazy world. She put herself in that situation by not knowing how to manufacture something positive from the date. Even walking home has an opportunity cost. As long as people choose to think like a victim or prey, they will create the reality. He was a gentleman. She thought she was too cool for him. We all make choices.

@@midnightwind8067 I tend to agree with avoiding victim mentality but I have been stalked by men who were obsessed with me and didn't understand my disinterest. Forced chivalry is not gentlemanly, it's prying.

@@midnightwind8067 No, she didn't put herself in that situation, she said no to him so he should have left it at that. Her fear was valid because that sort of thing does happen, it is already a reality for a lot of women.

There is a shocking amount of tension in the concept of a man who clearly isn't getting the social cues. His motivations become vague, is he actually intending to hurt her or is he just not understanding what's happening? It is actually suspenseful.

@@ZaberAnsaryOfficial I agree. The ketchup was a the punchline but it was a little too absurdist conclusion to a rather serious film. Am I the only one a little confused, was he a stalker, or was he just weirdly following her home to make sure she got there? I'm not really sure what the take away is tbh. All I know is that it has something to do with fear of walking alone at night as a woman. That aside, great short film from a technical prospective, the lighting, the different shots and the sound all come together really well. Props!

Your short made me remember my past. I'm not a Londoner. But lived there briefly while on course. One night class ended late - couple of yobs kept disrupting. Got to my station after midnight. Too cold to walk so I waited for the bus. An obviously drunk basketball player of a man asked where i lived. I know we're not to talk to strangers but if ignored, he would have coshed me one. Or two. Anyway i lied and said home was a street before my actual. He said he lived there too. He didn't ring the bell when the bus got to his home. But when i alighted at the next stop, he jumped off the bus, just before doors closed. I could hear him walking behind me. i continued walking until i sensed (from engine sounds and headlamp reflection) there werent any more cars. I looked back. He was still behind me but the road was clear. I ran across the road and picked up a small rock. Not as a weapon against him. But if attacked, I'd hurl rock at a neighbours greenhouse. Hopefully that would get some attention. Your short made me recall the high anxiety i experienced years ago. I think the natural lighting made it more realistic. So just as you don't regret making it, me no regret watching it, Mr C.

I think his focus on being the sort of 'low budget' or 'still using the t3i' filmmaking guy may have slowed his growth a bit. He'd sort of intentionally hold himself back for the sake of challenge, cause the whole 'gear doesn't matter' thing was a gimmick on the internet for a while. Probably still is.

Tip: when things started to get serious I would have tried keep the same shots but make them slightly zoomed in more.
