Luderick or blackfish (known as parore in New Zealand) are most often targeted on natural weed baits suspended under floats, but these feisty fish also respond extremely well to weed-imitating flies - presented on either conventional gear or fly tackle. Join Steve ‘Starlo’ Starling and James Caves of Bermi Fly fame to chase these tough little scrappers in the sudsy whitewater along a ruggedly beautiful rock ledge on the NSW far south coast.
If you’re interested in ordering some weed flies for yourself, here are a few suppliers Starlo trusts: @bermi_fly on Instagram, Hand Made Blackfish Floats on Facebook and Instagram, @m.delforce_84 on Instagram and BWC Flies at www.bwcflies.com.au
If you're looking for the perfect little floats/indicators for this caper, the larger Jet Pack bait floats from www.starlotackle.com are ideal for the job and come with their own sliding stoppers.
If you love this video and the channel, please consider shouting Starlo a beer (or a coffee!) to help him produce lots MORE great KZfaq content for your viewing pleasure! Simply go to: www.buymeacoffee.com/starlo
Thanks... and cheers!

Thanks mate love seeing you continue to show the edgey edges as you always have in every medium, too many creators ad nausium on the standards tarted up with bum shots and 'lookatmoy'. Clickbait is fine for many looking for a timesuck but for me a vid where I can grow in knowledge as I revel in the passion is gold.

So much fun! I tie my own and usually fish them on a two hook rig under a traditional stem float- one with cabbage and one a fly. The fly often outfishes the bait. I've never used a fly rod though. You've inspired me to dust off my old swf outfit and give it a go. Thanks Steve.

Cheers Steve. Fantastic fun on fly. Chased them on fly myself many times in the 90s in Kiama. Forgotten how much fun it was. Gotta tie a few up n have a go soon as I can.

Awesome video as usual Starlo! Could you do a video on skinning and preparing Luderick for eating? Last time I tried to skin my catch it became an unholy mess. Tight lines!

Good one Starlo 😊We used to catch them as kids around Woy Woy and the Rip bridge. We used to use green weed or cabbage on a float with those hooks that had no eye. Was good fun

Yeah! I read about this in modern fishing back in the 90s, Luderick was probably one of the first saltwater species I mastered on fly. Haven’t done it for many many years but it’s probably not a bad time of year to be hitting up the post office jetty at lakes entrance. Where did I put my fly vice? 🤔

Good fun session. I have tried drifting weed flies for blackfish/parore and never a bite, but I use indicator and flies and get plenty of snapper. Most parore in NZ are caught on widely assorted clouser patterns on slow retrieves.

i know it has nothing to do with this subject ... yet am wondering if any body has any tips regarding big black bream in tassie( shore based) to help me fulfill part of bucket list. unfortunately can't tow caravan and boat simultaneously😁
@StarloGetsReel
@StarloGetsReel 2 ай бұрын
Yes, certainly plenty of spots where you can tick that box. Lots of stretches of the Derwent around Hobart itself and further upstream, the Scamander River in the north east, Little Swanport on the east coast... plus lots more. Also, don't ignore any of the relatively small and often closed-to-the-sea coastal lagoons right up the east coast... Nearly ALL of them hold bream... So many options!

Small float with sliding stoppers so it can be moved up and down the leader with either a weighted fly or an unweighted fly and split shot hanging under it.
