Hi Mike, thanks for tuning in. These are Murray Crayfish. They are subject to a tight bag limit of 2 and strict size limits. These are caught in winter and only have a 3 month open season. Yabbies are much more plentiful and prefer warmer water, although I did catch a few last night. They have no season or size limit. Crayfish need fresh flowing water with a decent level of oxygen, whereas yabbies prefer warm, still stagnant water. These are Murray crayfish and are the second ind largest freshwater crayfish in the world, se one only to the giant Tasmanian Crayfish.

@@robbiefishing - when I was a kid I saw an albino crawfish after a heavy rainfall. It had left the stream and was on the bank. was about 7 inches long. I tried to catch it with my hands but failed. No one believed my story however.

Thanks mate, this species us a winter species. Yabbies are a summer species, and Murray crayfish are a winter species. I do usually catch a few yabbies each winter too though.

Thanks mate. I'm not sure but can have a guess at maybe 15+ years. Apparently it takes them around 10 years to reach the minimum size of 10cm, so based on that I'm guessing 15 - 20 years, but that is just a guess.
