I'm from the northeast and came down to Birmingham back in June for the weekend to do some fishing on the canals and lakes. Didn't catch much on the canals but really wanted to catch a pike or perch on lures. Could only catch the perch on maggots really want to try again but don't no where the best parts to fish

Having trouble catching any pike they are there just not biting any tips on lures or ways to get them to bite

Yeah well it’s winter at the moment so the fish are typically less active , from my experience in canals pike are everywhere so I’ve found that a hard rattle bait in the cold water with a slower retrieve gets more bites that a soft plastic , you can test what works in your area by sticking to a spot like a basin and finding the bait which picks up the most pike , a slower retrieve and jigs tend to work better in the colder water
