I think most of us remember that. Even as a big Xbox fan, I'm not going to forget them cutting Tango anytime soon, they were fast becoming one of my favourites. (Arkane Austin also sucks, but it sounds like that studio had mostly already gone anyway, and most of those remaining have been sent to other Bethesda studios, so it's harder to be angry about that) It's just, this is a showcase to celebrate what their other teams are up to and there's nothing wrong with being enthusiastic about their work. The actual studios that have nothing to do with managements decisions. Plus, with showcases this good Xbox might actually be able to get the momentum they need to sell more consoles/Gamepass subs/games outright, to avoid future closures. Hating on it just for the past closures is more likely to lead to future closures. I totally get that ignoring the closures is also rewarding bad behaviour

Yeah, there was a little bit of a time gap in the story between 2026 and Eternal, but other than that I think you're spot on

the actual worldbuilding stuff seems delegated to the DLC, from what I've heard. Never played it myself so can't say.

I understand art style can help keep a game from aging poorly. On the other hand, the trailer looked worse than Inquisitions, graphically speaking. Aging well is a secondary concern to looking decent now.

​@@SageVallant I guess I just don't have any real issues with it. I felt it looked fun. It reminds me more of the Arcane tv show. Which is dark and moody and leans hard into the emotions. I felt DA:I was so heavy into the characters. This makes them more expression. Connecting more with the fans who have been drawing fan art of those characters continuously for the past decade.

I know what you're saying but I kind of disagree, it has the look of a "modern" game and therefore is already dated. Yes it's stylized, but we've seen a lot of games that are stylized in a similar way in the last few years, with Fortnite being probably the biggest influencer. The game doesn't look bad, per se, but people are reacting negatively to it because it appears to lack identity. That being said it was all a trailer and not reflective of the actual experience, so people are reacting way too strongly at this stage IMO.

I'm fine with the look of the trailer. I think the problem is tone more than anything else. While Dragon Age has been more of a dark(ish) fantasy type of game, the trailer makes the new game feel like it's trying to pull off some borderlands/saints row 2022 kind of crap. Marty said the DA trailers rarely show what the game will be like, hopefully he's right.

@AFndjdj7373 i know you were being dismissive, but that is high school and college students. Likely the core target demographic. Since they don't have to tell returning players what the game is. And the oldest zoomers were 12 when the last game was out.

Most people don't think that colour palette = piss. It was a loss to Deus Ex Mankind Divided to get rid of the "piss filter" and the exaggerated character models. Lost quite a bit of its visual identity.

@@idakev most military themed games for 5+ years had variations on the same filter, it might be part of that eras visual identity but it did nothing to make those games stand out from each other.

@@rebask *Human Revolution doesn't look like military themed games like Gears Of War.* You're lumping games which lacked colour (they were desaturated, gritty, grey and brown) and added some strong bloom effects just because they could ... with a game which is very stylized, colourful and intentional. The opposite. The game even had exaggerated, slightly cartoony character models. *What specific game looks like it?* The gold and black shading perfectly lined up with the story being about a golden age/cyber renaissance with things taking a dark turn. So areas like Jensen's apartment strongly maintain the gold look and areas in decay are darker. It's very purposeful. It's like being angry at the way The Matrix looks. Some people just want things to look neutral and safe. *Realistic but not grey, colourful but not "too colourful".* Same reason Wind Waker got crapped on.

@@idakev I think I misunderstood you, but you may have misunderstood me. Going back to the start, 'piss filter' refers to a yellow/brown filter as post processing, as opposed to building a game from the ground up with a desaturated color palette. Until this video I've never heard anyone say they prefer it. At any rate rumor is it's still around as a toggle, so hopefully everyone gets what they want.

Okay, but MGS3 was trying to evoke spy films of the mid 60's. And film stocks back then tended to give everything a slight yellowish tint (not a filter put over the camera lens, it was just the nature of film stocks at the time).
