Colin Chapman sold it from 1957 t0 1973, not the 60's and then sold it to Graham Nearn who was not allowed to use the Lotus name, hence Caterham 7.

My girlfriend has got one of these but it’s in green Ain’t no way she’s ever gonna get me in it! As much as I love her, she drives like somebody that’s lost it anyway!

So the brakes aren't very good? The 620 has ventilated discs with quad piston calipers and an uprated brake master cylinder so that's surprising to hear. The standard brakes on the 310 you drove were presumably worse still.

Think what he means is that they’re not assisted, I found you have to put in the work

Yeah, as Pete suggests they're hard work. I've probably been spoiled by driving too many cars that make everything effortless! The Caterhams put you in control over everything and you have to work for it. It probably sounds like a cop out, but the fact they're not that easy is actually a positive, because you have to think about everything. Engine braking is a must, which gets you involved with the gearbox again - no bad thing in this! It's a superb car.

@@MilesAheadMotoring Thanks for the detailed clarification! As long as the driver still has confidence in the car's stopping ability then all's good regardless of whether it needs a little more effort from one's leg muscles. I've not yet driven a Caterham but don't imagine I'll be needing leg muscles like Arnie to use the brakes! Maybe I'm a softie but I do wish there was an option to have ABS. An idiot pulled out in front of me a few weeks ago and the ABS when slamming the anchors on basically saved me from crashing into him on what was a wet road.

@@sambagogo777 no problem, it deserves a bit of clarification, can't just slag them off and move on! They'll definitely stop you, but there's not the same level of confidence in them as there is with, as you say, an ABS set up. All part of the experience, though. A delightful throwback to a bygone age. Although, they're putting heated seats in them these days, so you never know...

@@MilesAheadMotoring Brakes do need work being unassisted. However, engine braking is a big no no in them for me! Far too easy to lock up the rear if you engine brake and it is not pleasant when that happens! Work the brakes hard - yes, heel and toe - yes but I never engine brake in mine as you can end up sideways very quickly!

Surely one of the main parts of the car is the Engine , Why didn't We Even See It ? Not everyone knows them....

It doesnt look that fancy really, only a 4 pot. Besides, it how it drives that makes the difference.
