Q:What camera do you use?
A: I use the Go Pro Hero 6 Black Edition
Q: Why don't you have a rotator?
A: Simply said, our wide open desert highways here in Indio do not require a rotator. Most scenarios allow us to drive the truck right down to the wreckage and perform our recovery without taking up any more lane than a rotator would. Another simple reason is price. They are very expensive trucks that, once again aren't really needed here. With that being said, that doesn't mean we will never get one just not at the moment.

Is there a specific advantage to running the chains like that where they hook back to the trailer and the binder pulls at an angle? Seen that in a couple videos now and was just wondering.

I don't think he's camera shy. I think he's just soft spoken. Darl reminds me a bit of Trent's dad: Quiet, contemplative, and not phased by much. I like that Trent's getting him to record more video. I always enjoy watching Darl's work.

buddy , thats not correct in holland(europe) is 50 metric tons legal we do that on 5 axles and 50 of our tons is 110.231 of your pounds and we do that with around 400 hp

Bob As a uk ex haulage operator please read my comment above , I question axle & wheel caps also the unsupported side loads placed on those CAT tracks together with undersized chains , At 50tn gross load a 4 or 5 axle would be the per pro euro standard with outriggers.

Bob Goat not really as we run 44 ton on 6 axles as the norm 90,000 lbs on everyday trucks. so taking 50 ton would run on the same 6 axles, I believe in Scandinavia they run 50 ton as the norm on 6 axles as the norm

Have you thought about putting four small boxes on the corners of the trailer and keeping each chain in its own box? Save yourself a few minutes distributing them.

I think some one is pulling your leg on the weight of that machine as the CAT spec is 25.7 ton to 30 ton 56770Ibs to 66250Ibs, there is no way that drill head weights 20 ton at most it would be 10 ton but you would have to take the arm and bucket of the machine which is about 5 ton so the total weight would only be around 35 ton (77000Ibs) maximum.

I believe you may have misunderstood what Darl said. He said that the trailer itself is rated at 50 T and the overall gross weight is somewhere in the 100-110k range. Hopefully I cleared that up. Great description though!
