Two of my most asked questions when catfish noodling is: “can you still eat those catfish when they get that big?” And “do they still taste good?” Yes, they do! You just have to clean them right. Here’s how!

My dad was a commercial fisherman here in Missouri for 40 years. He fished commercially in Iowa when I was a baby. I grew up on the Missouri River raising hoop nets and trammel nets. I spent every summer pulling the hides off catfish. Love your videos. You ever feel like coming up this way I’ll put you on some 100lb flatties. Last summer I fought a 85 lb blue for an hour or better. I’ve always been partial to rod & reel. It’s all fun but never noodled. You my dear, are right up my alley! Keep up the greatness. Live your down south draw and yes, I could listen to you say water all day!

My Dad an I commercial catfished for a living, it helped to feed all 9 of us. We had a country store. We used wooden slat boxes baited with Rotten Cheese from a Tennessee cheese company. I cleaned way too many catfish at age 14-15. We are in Northern Alabama, now you can't eat the Fish from the Tennessee river Wheeler Lake. I enjoy your videos. I am impressed with all your skills Hannah.

I totally agree must cut out all the dark off the white meat... but This method wastes more than should. I take the fillet and cut down the line as you did, then I cut the fillets 1 1/ in vertically (top to bottom) then roll the nugget steak on side and on cutting board cut off the red. By having grain of meat up and down when you make your cuts you are able to cut only the red meat out only. from what I saw wasted would say would reduce wastage by 2/3 meaning you cutting away 2/3 of the meat for only needing to cut out 1/3. It will take lil more time but not much more as I do it assembly style too. The amount of fish meat you save will be significant Late summer smaller catfish is good idea to cut out any yellow also and same method. Another hint is before cooking fish drain them from salt water then in gallon ice cream bucket I add 2 cups of milk and let set in fridge for couple hrs before frying. the milk will take away any mud taste left in the fish Love your show, I never thought about noodling under boat ramps I have done my noodling under river drifts and hollow logs in a flowing river usually under 5-8ft of water, we always have rope tied on so that if a blue cat clamps on and takes off with ya the other guy can pull you up. When was young 10-14 I was taken for many rides that my dad had to pull me out. He said I was his favorite catfish bait
