Catherine Cohen is an NYC-based comedian, singer, songwriter, and actress. She’s also been named one of five comedians to watch in 2018 by Time Out New York.
“Every woman has a different story that is so complex and interesting and if they’re allowed to speak their truth and put their stories out there, little girls all around the world are going to be like, cool I can do what I want,” she explained. “And we’ll have a more magical world to live in.”
Cohen said she grew up loving musical theatre in Texas. She moved to NYC to pursue comedy after college. Her acts exude confidence and promote body positivity as well as explore female sexuality.
“Body positivity is really important to me, I want my size 10-12 ass to be all over TV,” she said. “I just think we should have a movie where the romantic lead is a woman who weighs more than 150 pounds, and it’s not disgust, and that’s just how it is.”
Cohen performs nightly at clubs around NYC and has recently sold out larger venues like Joe’s Pub.
“I do think it’s a little funny for me to be like ‘I wanna be a movie star,’ but it’s like no, I wanna be a movie star,” she said. “So that some little chubby girl in Texas is like, ‘Whoa, I can do that too.’”
