Wonderful teaching on the symbolism. I love how parables do not mean what we think they do at face value. Thanks for you teaching Dr Pitre.

I like that the mustard seed started small end ended up as a shrub rather than a towering tree. I think it pushes humility in a big way.

I like that thought a lot. I also enjoyed the idea that we basically can’t be weeded out. Our Lord established a humble but tough kingdom. Empires have persecuted Christians in every age, but it’s the cedars of Lebanon, not the shrubs, that have passed away.

The way Dr. Pitre starts with the definition of terms is classic. He then puts the elements together and voila, the argument is complete and the theological point is made.

Hello from the land of cedars The cedar is in the middle of of Lebanon flag 🇱🇧 the cedar is known to live in high altitude in cold mountains covered with snow for half of the year days. We have a small forest called cedars of God because they lived for hundred of years and cedars are often associated with the attribute of eternity.

Love this episode after lifting up and speaking highly of the worldly kingdoms, symbolized by the Great Cedar and then the lowliness, the suffering continues as usual for the Kingdom of Israel and the Catholic nation to this day and age. A hidden power in faith and trust. We continue to be held in humility to sharpen our humanity and properly blend the forbidden knowledge and how it is tapered and tamed by humility and grace to yield a greater Kingdom, a more solid foundation not worldly and physical, but a nation that God Himself will intervene in righteous measure and timing to defend and crush even Egypt back then and present day Super Powers to yield His great goal for us. Gods intervention is soon and depicted in Revelation even more dramatically then the Exodus and parting of the Red Sea etc. The humility is of such an unattractive appeal not welcoming to those God intends to weed out.

Excellent explanation Dr. Pitre 😍😍😍 I was thinking of the mustard tree to be a big and a massive tree. But this explanation corrected my erroneous understanding of this parable and this reminded me of the deep insight at which we have to look at a parable ♥♥♥

I contemplated on this parable for awhile prior to becoming Catholic and it was only after I converted that I realized it was the Church. I think the growth of the Church is right and the expansion from Jews to gentiles as well, but I also came to the conclusion that it likely pertains to the development of doctrine as well.

Hi Dr. Pitre, do you think the opposite for those who oppose the Church which is the mustard tree, are also represent the weed parable? Meaning, that there’s only one tree, the Church, while those who rebelled against the Church, are like the scattered weeds?

I think he misses the main point of the Gospel. The kingdom grows in a mysterious way, and it is God at work. God calls for us to participate in this work of building the kingdom by planting the seed, but then we must also trust that God will bless our work and make it bear fruit.

Paul teaches the Church, the body of Christ. Only revealed in Paul’s epistles (revealed as a mystery-secret hidden) to Paul.

@po18guy Paul is speaking to the Church, the body of Christ in his epistles. Things were revealed to him called mysteries (secrets). Romans 16:25-25 (KJV) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, Kept secret for how long? Jesus and the 12 were ministers to Israel. How was a gentile saved at that time before the cross? Did Peter know the meaning of the cross and ever preach the cross for salvation? How could he if the meaning was hidden?

@EPH-re2xj

@po18guy we don’t follow Christ in His earthly ministry because Christ’s earthly ministry was to the lost sheep of the house of Israel under the law. ( Matthew 15:24, Galatians 4:4 ) We follow Jesus in His heavenly ministry he gave to the apostle Paul to the uncircumcision. ( Galatians 2:7 )

Orchids have the smallest seeds. You would think God would have known something like that. Now a regular person living in the middle east two thousand years ago, may think a mustard seed is the smallest. But a person that claims to be magical and all knowing would know the Orchid has the smallest seed. Either Jesus didn't know, or he lied.
@39knights
@39knights Жыл бұрын
When God speaks our language He really has to dumb it down, and apparently for some more than others. 2000 years ago there weren't many people in Jerusalem making a killing in the orchid industry. But of the things they did plant and were familiar with; the mustard seed would be the smallest; especially in contrast to the end result. In this case Jesus was looking to make a point in a parable and not present a scientific paper on seed sizes. Now if you want to talk about scientific theories based on magic; we could probably talk a bit about the big bang. It seems in every age, including our own people are still fascinated by fairy-tales.
