This concert was from 1983, it absolutely banged. The whole band was on point, led by lead vocalist and guitar god Mark Knopfler. This blew me away just watching the video, I can't even imagine being in the audience.

The live show was from the 1985 tour. Saw them in Austin that year. Best concert I ever saw.

The secret weapon is drummer Terry Williams (ex-Dave Edmunds/ Rockpile). And it is a 'dude' as you phrase it- Hal Lindes on rhythm guitar. Peace from Canada.

This was from 1983 in my Hometown of London and this London Band were coming home for this Concert in front of their Home fans. The City that has produced more World Class Groups than any other :)

I can not split my Top 3:Dave G, Rory Gallagher, and Gary Moore, and if you see Gary LIVE at Montreux playing "Parisienne Walkways" or LIVE In Paris playing "I've Still Got The Blues For You" then you will see why but with so many others like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix(not really one of mine but I see his greatness) and, of course, Mark, t's an ever-changing, elite few..

Hey guys! This was so great to watch. I listen to this almost everyday. And it almost makes me tear up as I was raised with this music but now I really really approximate it. Watching these reactions makes me so happy. This is probably one of the best live performances ever and the people that are there didn’t even realize I believe this was 1985.. also no that is not a girl. That is The leads brother

I was there back in '83 and there were no girls in the band, its Hal Lindes! This was filmed at Hammersmith Odeon, London, in July 1983' I went with a couple of guys from work, I was 18, it was amazing, but you don't realise how amazing until you see this video, because it was only the second gig I went to, the first being the Rolling Stones, so the bar was already high! This is still up there as the best gig

Mark Knopfler plays lead guitar so fast! I also recommend much later in his older years, his collaboration with the great Emmylou Harris 🎸 it's more mellow like folk/country

This song is about going into a pub in London to get out of the rain one night and the place was mostly empty but the band playing were call the Sultans of Swing.........they are making a little fun of them as they performed to a basically empty house but thought they were big time;;.............a bit of a mocking..........they are rpck stars............Swing music is from the Forties.

Always have to point out since it's something easily overlooked and quite frankly Mark Knopfler doesn't get the recognition he deserves as one of the greatest guitarists, but if you look closely, you'll notice the man is finger picking that guitar, which nobody does except for some acoustic players. Guitar George lived in the next street to me. I fact we had 2 members of Dire straits, Jon Lord from Deep Purple, and John Deacon from Queen all living within 500 yards of my house in Leicester, UK.

While not common, it wasn't unheard of to see a guy in a crop-top with tiny shorts or dressing in ways that generally only women or cross-dressers wear today... The 80's were weird times... ..."drugs are bad" kids... It's the lesson the 80's taught us all....

I bought a Purple Leather jacket in a charity shop once around 5 years ago after being assured it was a Man's jacket. A long term female friend wanted me to accompany her to buy a used car from a second-hand salesman and to look macho and drive a hard bargain and look as if I knew what the heck I was talking about and kick some tires..and I agreed to meet her there and I turned up with my leather jacket to impress her....It didn't go well when she saw it and she wouldn't speak to me on the way home and mentioned the jacket was padded.....lol
