Causing a Family Fall Out

The People's Court

The People's Court

Күн бұрын

The plaintiff says the defendant is her sister, who gave the plaintiff one of her kidneys 10 years ago. No matter how selfless that was, the defendant owes the plaintiff money for babysitting, a loan, and her share of a hotel room, so she’s suing her. The defendant says her sister is being petty and cheap, and she denies owing anything.

I don’t think people understand. You can’t hold it over someone forever if they gave you a kidney. You really aren’t supposed to hold it over anyone at any point in time. If you gave the kidney then you gave it without contingency and from the bottom of your heart. The sister said after that her younger sister didn’t have to pay or touch anything and had her back for years. She didn’t have to pay rent or anything. There comes a point where eventually that has to end. The sister can’t just ride that out forever and think she NEVER EVER has to pay for anything. That’s just stupid, especially if the older sister wasn’t working… but I also wouldn’t sue my sister over $900. $2k and up, definitely, but not $900. Big sis could have just ate that and said ok now I’m no longer in your debt after this.

You know what I agree with you. The way which is showed up cut off too much of the narrative and smal details. It passed 10 years and if she is suing someone she has a deep bond with only for some bucks it is because there is a way more behind it. But did the plaintiff really had to go to court to get it worked out ? I guess that's where the issue is.

@@elvickRULES Um actually I would if I had the money. Sorry but if you were to pay someone for a kidney it wouldn’t be cheap. She owes her sister her literal life. The sister is being selfish and petty.

@@LeolaGlamour I don’t care if I sound selfish, I’m being realistic. It’s easy to say you wouldn’t want to be paid back until you’re in that situation. LOVE LOVE the defendant's dress. She looks great. Saying that weddings are expensive isn't true: you can have a decent wedding for very cheap. I was an MSc student and my partner was a BSc student during our wedding, so we had very little money. We got married outside in a beautiful park in the spring overlooking a gorgeous river. The only cost we had to pay was for the officiant and the rings, which came to $450. Afterwards, we went with our 16 guests to our favourite well-reviewed Sri Lankan restaurant where they agreed to charge $30 per person and kept bringing out a variety of dishes until we told them to stop because we couldn't eat anymore. It was probably better than the garbage catered food at most weddings and with a big tip, came to $600. Then we bought about $300 in alcohol and had a party at my parents' house afterwards. Nature supplied the foliage and flowers, and my friend who is a very talented photographer offered to take pictures for us as our gift. So, total cost: $1350 Canadian. Everyone had a lot of fun, nobody had to suffer through the boredom of dancing to stupid wedding music or making speeches or buying special clothes that they're unlikely to ever wear again. I imagine that most more traditional weddings are very stressful because of logistics and having to organize so many things that can go wrong that the two people getting married can't relax and have fun. Definitely not a problem with us: as long as the officiant showed up, everything was fine. So many couples I know spend $10k - $30k on their weddings, and many of them are divorced now. I can't imagine dropping $30k on one day when you could use that money to help put a downpayment on a house, buy a car, or use part of it to take a very nice honeymoon to wherever you want to go: a time where you can actually enjoy yourself. I'm glad they resolved things in the end. I love Judge Milian.

A lot of people saying how dare she sue her sister who gave her a kidney, but bringing someone to these court shows aren’t truly “suing.” The litigants are paid by the court’s fund if they win their case and both litigants usually get paid to be on the show lol

I can never sue my sister, let alone after she gave me her kidney. What should have happened was, the older sister should realize she's really not getting any money back and put her foot down and not lend the little sister any more money. That's what happened at the end of this and you could have avoided coming to court

Im glad the judge made them hug. This was a wholesome episode becasue they dont hate each other. They just needed to establish open communication and manage expectations. I also feel like they both needed to vent because they have a history as the judge said

My big sis was on dialysis her whole life. She passed when she was 48 due to sepsis. Was the most absolute terrible time in my life. I would do anything just to get one more day with her. You 2 should not be fighting over money. Be grateful that you have each other. You will never get another one like her. Get it together girls❤️

I don't know what happens in some instances that the person who gets the kidney or organ from a family member change! This is not the first time I've seen this they all of a sudden feel they are entitled to everything! I saw a court case where a girlfriend gave the boyfriend her kidney because he was dying! He dumped her two months afterwards! An adopted woman was contacted by her bio family and demanded she give her kidney to their son! She said no! They harassed her so much she had to get a restraining order! This woman here is straight up ungrateful! She's got some nerve!

As the Judge always says, don't lend money if you can't afford to lose it, as for the kidney? She was very lucky that her sister was a compatible doner and had she not gotten that kidney, she might not have lived to get another, so yes, she owes her sister big time.

This is a prime example of families not teaching their children how to have boundaries with each other. Yes, you must keep your word because people are counting on that. No, your sister is not a free baby sitter, and if you know your wedding is accruing cost for a family you should be accommodating and work with her budget.
