The plaintiff says the defendant is her sister-in-law, and she loaned her money months back and it hasn’t been repaid. Family or not, she’s suing to get the cash. The defendant says the plaintiff gave her money to move her and her kids from Florida to New York. She insists it was a gift.

@@kyoto32001 do you live in the 1800s? Having kids out of wedlock is completely normal nowadays. Having multiple mothers/fathers isn't ideal, but you can choose not to do that (especially if you are a dude... and women who live in US watch out, cos your reproductive rights are about to be screwed. And dudes, your right for your lady and yourself to get contraception is next). So don't judge others simply because you would do differently.

I believe the plaintiff helped the defendant substantially by recommending she move, loaning her $400, and finding a NYC shelter. It seems clear there was an understanding it was a loan. The woman arrives, and doesn't even have the details of the shelter(?) Only one father of 3 is paying child support. It doesn't seem that the defendant is focused or independent. None of that means she wins her case.

Both of them made no sense and made horrible decisions. There was zero point in going to NYC. She could have easily found a shelter in FL that would have put her and her children into a home and gave her benefits so she can bounce back within a year. During this airing, NY was way more expensive and way too crowded. And why would she go to NYC only for the friend and family to not help her out? The plaintiff just wanted her friend close, yet refuse to answer the phone when they got to NY?? And then she expected her to give her the 500 the second she got there (I believe she did ask right when she got to NY). It's obvious with 5 kids she would need any spare money she had. It would have made way more sense to give her at least a year to pay and ask for small payments of $50-100 a month. If it was me, I would have told her to keep it, bc those babies need every dime people could give them.

First I want to say why would she expect to be repaid from someone that clearly has no money!? I do not think this was a loan. I think something happened that made the plaintiff angry and that's when she decided she wanted her money back out of spite. Second, I think it's disgraceful to put the defendant down for being in a shelter with her children. Because as a married woman myself, with 4 children and having a husband that is the sole provider I almost ended up in a shelter with my kids when we separated for about a year. Thankfully my mom let us stay but at any time if she had told us to go we would have no where to live. It was not easy finding a job because my youngest needed childcare and it was too expensive. I was not approved for assistance because I was still legally married and had to claim his income. Nothing was easy but I pushed through for my kids. I can't imagine poking fun, like the judge did, at a woman that's struggling, at anyone that's struggling. Do you think staying in a shelter is what anyone wants? Especially with your children? You're there because you have no one and no where. And it takes a lot of time to save the money needed to find a home, especially with providing for children during that time. My heart aches for the defendant because she thought someone was helping her, that's the only reason she relocated. And then this. It's cheaper to live in Florida than New York, so I highly doubt she would have chosen to move to a more expensive state unless she was promised help. This case really upset me.

I don't think that she knows what stability means. Those poor kids. Need to be with someone who knows how to provide. The other girl is never going to see the money. Sue all you want. If they don't have it! This girl hasn't been taught how to provide. Those poor kids.

It's so frustrating that incompetent and irresponsible people like defendant have so many kids. They are incapable parents. Five kids by three men, only one of whom is paying child support. Why not the other two? They should be taking care of their children, not the taxpayers. Those poor kids.

Am i the only person who thinks it’s despicable the plaintiff dragged this woman to court from a NY SHELTER WITH 5 KIDS for money!?!? And it’s her family to boot! She gave her SIL money knowing she was basically homeless so she could get to a shelter. Is there really a reasonable expectation that she would be paid back?Judge Judy would have ruled totally different.

I don't understand how many comments are saying the plaintiff didn't expect to get paid back because the mom & 78 kids were in a shelter. So, you guys all think that living in a shelter with 5 kids with 3 baby daddies means she can't lie? She could easily do what everyone else does on here- "I'll pay you when I get (taxes/child support/insurance claim)" Maybe the welfare system is better from where she was to where she wanted to go? Maybe a baby daddy wanted the kids and she wanted to leave town? Maybe CPS was looking at her? People are far too lenient in trying to allow people like this lady to get away with anything...
