That is the brand owned and sold by the online store Bikes Direct. Since they are delivered partially assembled (install seat/seat post, pedals, front wheel, handlebars), it was likely assembled by the owner or original purchaser.

When I first saw the brand I knew it was an online bike purchase and probably not assembled correctly by the original owner.

I remember when I was younger and riding on of my parents folding bikes when on holiday in Spain and thought I’d pull a wheelie went to feather the back brake and flipped it and sprained my knee quiet badly as the brakes were installed the opposite way round.. first day of the holiday to 😢 lesson learned 😊 great advice george.. Good find, the bike is in great shape. The last two used bikes that I purchased I had my local shop check them out.

I don’t know about rest of the country, but here in Seattle, people that work in “tech” doesn’t believe anyone else deserves a wage or profit or any kind outside of their industry, They will buy stuff online and expect local stores to “hook them up of just a tiny fix” for cheap. I do enjoy researching online, but I made sure when I am ready to buy, I bought from a local store with the bike I want in stock.

The thumbnail made me think this was a Bianchi from the colour! You then pointed out the right brake was the front and I thought that's fine as I'm English. However that was pretty bad getting to a consumer in that state and great that you could get it sorted for them!

Unfortunately a lot of local bike shops massively overcharge. Small or large doesn't matter. The best bike store in my city (Wellington, New Zealand) is a chain, "Evo NZ." They're polite and knowledgable mountain and gravel bikers. I ride fixed and urban, but they can order parts in. That entirely backwards handlebar issue is strange, did they not think it over twice when the logos ended up upside diwn and backwards? Lol.

Every bike, literally every bike you purchase requires thorough checking. No matter the source. Lubrication may be missing where it should be. Screws may be loose or overtightened. Threads may be damaged or left ungreased during initial assembly. Some parts like for example break or derailleur lines have to settle in before long and trouble free use. A newly purchased bike requires a service right after the purchase and equally importantly another inspection after about 500km again.

Big Box Stores are infamous for badly assembled bikes. Not blaming them as it's usually a stock boy doing the set up.. .. but it is a problem.

George, my 16 year old daughter wants to get into cycling with me. Should I get a real used road bike for her? And how do I get her into the sports without scaring her away. Start her out with a 5 mile ride? I want to take her mtb on a mild fire trail , but my wife is going to have a cow. Would be a dream for me to be able to ride with my daughter before she heads to college 2 years from now.

George, if you ever get to inspect a John Deere child's bicycle, take a look at the distance of the brake levers from the bars. They are sized more for adult sized hands than children's hands.. these J.D. bicycles should recalled for safety reasons.

How do you front brake with left hand? It would feel very strange to me being British and right-handed. Nice looking and well geared bike, glad you fixed it and hope the kid has fun with it. The funnzie KZfaq channel showed that with some tinkering budget bikes can be very capable machines.

@@draugmithrin I’m right-handed also but I’ve trained my left hand to modulate my front brake very well. The front brake is the most powerful and useful brake as you know. I primarily brake with my front brake in all situations. Of course we have a ton of traffic lights here (I wish we had roundabouts) in the states. I brake with my left hand drink with my right and come to a complete stop. AND since it’s all I’ve ever known there is no issue. I’m 58 and riding bikes since I was 4 years old 😂
