Hi Peter. I use Heljan magnetic couplings on the detailed ends of several locos but I’m very impressed with your design. Would you consider showing us exactly how you make them?
@torridonroadbypeterdixon4162
@torridonroadbypeterdixon4162 5 ай бұрын
Hi there, it's very simple, I had a broken Hunt coupling magnet. Cut it down to the small size you can see in the video. Made a loop out of some 'stripped' wire, soldered it so it would keep its shape and glued it to the backside of the magnet. I left enough of the wire not stuck to the magnet so I could bend the wire to give the right length so as to not derail whatever it was going to pull. When that was done used super glue and baking powder to make into one solid form. So now what you see is a small ring at the back of the magnet. Hope this make sense Cheers Peter

That's a lovely fleet of locos you have. I have several of the Accurascale 37s myself, and love the look of the Rails/Bachmann 47, but can't justify one of those for myself. I do have the Cavalex 56 120 on the way too, so loved seeing your preview/review of it. Thanks for posting this video.

Hi Peter Ron here in the man flat ha ha was enjoying your latest video showing the running of your Cavelex class 56 when my flat bell wrang and the DPD driver brought me my Cavelex 56 l have gone for a rail freight one 56077, unfortunately l wasn't able to get a sound fitted one as Rails had run out so l had to get a dcc ready one and Cavelex are waiting on finishing of their ESU loksound decoders but they told me they shouldn't be long so l will have to admire it from afar for a while . I agree what a superb model anyway enjoy. Ron @ Willenhall Parkway

Hi Peter, great review and running session, I have a Hornby class 56 in Railfreight grey livery which I cherish, the Cavalex version is on another level in every way so I’m tempted to get one dcc ready, I’d like to hear the factory sound against the Legomanbiffo sound for the Class 56 so I can see which one I would like, Hornby are so far behind Accurascale and Cavalex it’s not funny! Like you I’m not a fan of weathering on rolling stock in anyway, it’s like Marmite you can love it or hate it, the working roof fans are a bonus I just hope they perform better than the dreadful units Hornby throw into their 21pin HST packs, thanks for sharing.

To be fair to Hornby it was fine in its day but they upped the price for it so much now. The fans on the Cavalex use two coreless motors that run independently All the best Peter

@@torridonroadbypeterdixon4162 Hornby coaches are ok when bought in a sale, their wagons are ok when you get ones without large ‘D’ style tension link couplings that are from very old mouldings that will never be upgraded to nem pockets. Hornby prices are very excessive in my opinion so I don’t buy their products anymore unless they are in mega sales, their class 56 is a good model but very dated now, Hornby have very little to offer in the diesel model market, the 21pin HST packs are terrible value for money if you don’t obtain them in a sale. The Cavalex class 56 looks like a total winner, independent fans look amazing in action, not sure we will see them in the Accurascale class 37’s until 2025 which is a shame, Bachmann class 37 & 47 models have superb working roof fans, I hope to have a look at a Cavalex class 56 when I go to a model shop in my area that sell them or are they to order only?

@@torridonroadbypeterdixon4162 If the middle axle doesn't float up and down then that will not stop the bogie pivoting and possibly derailing the loco, as Charlie Bishop's Accurascale class 37 was doing on his imperfect helix track; in which case Cavalex might as well have made it part of the power train with all wheel drive!

Surprised you didn't go for the DCR 56091 or Colas 56049, got both of those for myself with sound. Yes the Cavalex Class 56 is really up there with Accurascale's Class 37 and Class 55 for quality and sound, Cav & Alex really nailed it and now looking forward to my Cavalex DCR & Cappagh Class 60's later this year. Just a couple of points. 1. Not a fan of the loco being screwed onto a plinth without any protection for the loco facing up apart from the foam resting on top along the box, go back to using ice-cube packaging please. Also noticed my loco's had moved to an angle on the plinth within the box which may cause issues (apparently it has, see RMweb Cavalex Class 56 thread) but if you need to keep putting the loco back in the box for logistical reasons then having this method will be a pain. 2. Jury is out on not having all-wheel drive but instead Cavalex have gone for AIA-AIA configuration whereas every other manufacturers apply all-wheel drive to their loco's, believe Cavalex have their reasons but we shall see how this pans out going forward on people's layouts pulling heavy trains especially with inclines. To be honest not sure why having all-wheel drive now appears to be an issue and/or since Chadwick's video the other week, never seen anyone moan about it until Charlie's video and at the end of the day he had an issue with his track and for me there was too much focus on Accurascale's Class 37 which was unfair considering it had nothing to do with Charlies track issues. 3. I configured the loco's via Lokprogrammer to have the cab lights switch off after moving off and coming back on when stopped, IMO they should be configured like that out of the box and for me an annoying aspect from Bachmann as well but you can argue either way. Great job from Cavalex and they have my full support for bringing out products like this along with Accurascale & Revolution Trains. Cheers Steve

Regarding point no2, one man did a review on set track laid onto a carpet floor which was uneven and complained about wheel slip. Since then another 30 min+ video has appeared on YT showing four different Cavalex 56’s hauling scale length heavy trains up helixes and gradients including standing starts etc, also very smooth over pointwork so the jury really shouldn’t need to worry about the A1A-A1A configuration.
@sapphirejunction8993
@sapphirejunction8993 5 ай бұрын
@@RobertCant-mo2nk Yes have seen the videos. I'm not particularly worried about it but more on the Cavalex thought process around this as opposed to all other manufacturers. Will be interesting to see how this ages with time with those hauling long trains over all sorts of conditions on a regular basis and whether this AIA-AIA configuration puts undue strain on the motor. Time will tell.
@RobertCant-mo2nk
@RobertCant-mo2nk 5 ай бұрын
Well I doubt many people will be running scale length trains looking at that rake of HAA’s and not too many layouts will have gradients and helixes. It’s not too unique as other manufacturers have gone down this route although admittedly not often but most models appear to be built down to a price or at least with compromises. Cavalex have stated the desire to build the best model possible using the production techniques now available and have given their reason for the floating axle. There is an argument that this configuration actually causes less strain on the motor due to it only needing to load up for four axles rather than six plus there should be more traction from the weight being distributed over 8 wheels rather than 12.
@Southwich

Hi Steve - as someone that was a part of the process in bringing the 56 to market, I can tell you we spent hours debating the packaging. For us the primary purpose of the packaging was to get the models to customers from China in one piece. looking at the bogies made up of 36+ parts this was vital as we couldn’t have pieces turning up in the box off of the locos. Whilst the ice cube/clam shell packaging is easier to get the model in and out of, the bigger priority was protecting the model. During tests we found this design of packaging was far more protective of the models as opposed to the traditional packaging design - especially with foam touching the model, you want to ensure the model does not move during transit and the packaging doesn’t pull of any detail parts. AIA config is also going to bring more benefit to more users than having all wheel drive would (over uneven track, helixes, gradients etc). The additional compensation allows for all of the wheels/axles to be in contact with the track at all times vs all wheel drive which has a tendency to rock on the centre axle and cause derailments. Hopefully some of the thoughts above help! Will

*** WARNING *** Peter, this is very important. I am alarmed that you have highlighted the Accurascale lifetime warranty announcement at its initial face value, without explaining its restrictions and exemptions contained within it. This is giving your viewers a false sense of security about the actual cover being offered. The ACCURASCALE WARRANTY, welcome as it is, is only a "LIMITED" lifetime warranty, NOT an UNLIMITED warranty!**** READ THE WARRANTY CONDITIONS and understand the exclusions, this is critical or you could be caught out! Unless the model was bought brand new in your name from an approved retailer (NOT EBAY) or direct from Accurascale themselves; has been kept in perfect, untouched, un-weathered cosmetic condition along with ALL of its packaging, then you are NOT necessarily covered for repairs. If sent back, you may not even get the same model back! It is a NON TRANSFERABLE warranty so only the initial buyer has any cover at all for that loco and NOT a SECOND HAND purchaser. Please read the warranty and ask all your viewers to do the same. Regards Julian

"Unless the model was bought brand new in your name from an approved retailer (NOT EBAY)"...can be from an eBay retailer who is an approved Accurascale stockist. "has been kept in perfect, untouched, un-weathered cosmetic condition along with ALL of its packaging, then you are NOT necessarily covered for repairs"...that is downright mis-information, the product can be weathered and whatever else you do to it as long it is not the cause of the issue and you will get your original loco back after repair and not some other model, but you cannot ask for a new body or whatever else if you have altered or damaged it. "It is a NON TRANSFERABLE warranty so only the initial buyer has any cover at all for that loco and NOT a SECOND HAND purchaser."...how's this any different to any other manufacturer, this is standard practise! The Accurascale Warranty is literally no different to any other manufacturer warranty apart from them going the extra mile and making it lifetime. Now stop being over dramatic and putting fear into people for no reason, anyone can go to their website & read the warranty conditions and they are also further explained in their thread on the RMweb forum.

@@sapphirejunction8993 So, to be clear, you want me to stop asking people to read, understand and be fully aware of the limitations/exemptions being offered by Accurascale's newly announced limited lifetime warranty? Why? Would you rather they remain in ignorance and possibly be caught out? In my opinion what you have replied with is not the case, that is not what the warranty states.

@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 No I don't, you just need to get your facts right and not be so over-dramatic with your post. It just comes across as having a beef with Accurascale or having some sort of agenda against them. Just remember their warranty hasn't changed apart from being just 12 months to now being Lifetime which is a massive bonus and IMO all other manufacturers should follow suit.

@@theeventhorizon-valebridge9512 No not at all and is not what I'm implying. I have highlighted your non-factual data in regards to the warranty, which you haven't disputed, and your post just comes across as having a dig at or beef with Accurascale. "In my opinion what you have replied with is not the case, that is not what the warranty states."...wrong again, have another go at reading it. Accurascale should be commended in offering this Lifetime Warranty and goes beyond every other manufacturer who should follow suite if they have confidence in their products.
