You can also put it in an airtight heat resistant glass container and put it in a pot and boil it on low heat for one hour. This also extracts the herbs essence into the oil also. This is the method I use. After you do that, you have the option to leave the herbs in or strain them out or leave them in to look pretty.

Yes ,definitely . I use that method for my propolis salve but I use my crockpot. The blender method in this video is a faster way of extracting from some herbs. Different methods but same results. Thanks for watching. Hope this salve helps.

@suzyrebelo
@suzyrebelo Жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea. I’ve heard how comfrey can ease pain too. My mom used to have those shots, it was so very painful for her. The cayenne salve is good , I’m glad you’re trying different remedies to see what works best for you. I know this might sound a bit out there ,but you might want to try a fresh ginger poultice on your knee for a few hours. Just take a couple of inches of fresh ginger , mince it up, add it to a cotton cloth like a handkerchief and fold it up, wrap around your knee for a few hours. There should be one layer of material between your skin and the fresh ginger. My sister did this and had much relief from her knee pain. This works if your knee is inflamed. It is said that the ginger pulls the inflammation out of the joint, hence easing the pain. Only do it for a few hours every few days. This isn’t meant as medical advice , just something easy that might just help you. If it does help you , share it with others who might benefit. Thanks for watching. Hope one of your remedies work!

@@suzyrebelo Suzy- I think you’ll find it will be a very easy plant to grow and the more red peppers you pull off as they mature the more peppers come back. Seemed like it was putting out twice the amount then before. I’d pick 4-5 peppers 🌶 one day and the next time I’d go to pick the next peppers there would be 6-8. It kept producing all summer and I didn’t think it would ever quit producing peppers and they are so beautiful as well. I ended up air drying my peppers by stringing them with a needle and thick thread. Just pierced the green stem with the needle and thread and kept adding peppers to the thread as they were harvested and it was about 3 ft long and had to start another strand of peppers. The peppers were about 2 inches apart on the thread and I’d hang them across the window where they’d get sun and they dried beautifully. There’s diff ways to dry them and read where someone did there’s like this so I tried it for the first time. Maybe you can tell us about your health garden some day. I’d love to see it! I have a huge Aloe plant as well and all of my plants are grown in containers as well. They are easier for me to tend to big pots vs the ground due to the storms we have here and the soil is just to sandy on the ground.

@suzyrebelo
@suzyrebelo Жыл бұрын
Hi there. It’s a pretty solid salve but will melt when applied. I’ve just looked up my beeswax alchemy book and they are using 20 % beeswax in the recipe for a deodorant stick. Therefore, if you want to try this out, use 80% cayenne oil to 20% beeswax. I would make one stick as a test. The extra beeswax won’t change much , it will just create a more solid bar to use. Let me know how it works. It’s a better way to apply this onto your skin without touching it with your hands. Good idea.

@suzyrebelo
@suzyrebelo Жыл бұрын
Hello BC Canada ! thanks for subscribing. Capsaicin is the active ingredient in the salve. cayenne pepper contains approximately 2.5 mg of capsaicin per gram. Ghost peppers are much higher in capsaicin I believe. Although you’d think more is better, the excessive heat may be to much if applied topically and burn your skin. I don’t know for certain but I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m sure the ghost peppers would make mighty pepper sauce ! 🔥. Thanks for your comment, hope this helps.

I made a stong infusion of the capsaicin as i have an old shoulder injury and arthritis and in a lot of pain but i did not feel any heat off the capsaicin when i put on my skin .Why do you think this is as it was a strong infusion ,half oil to half capsaicin? I would be grateful if you could let me know your thoughts on this. Thank you x
@suzyrebelo
@suzyrebelo Жыл бұрын
Oh dear. These remedies may not work for everyone. However, the salve works on numbing the pain, not necessarily creating heat that you can feel. Also, you might want to check on the freshness and heat of the cayenne powder or chill peppers you’re using. Like most dried herbs , they lose their effectiveness with time. If that doesn’t work you might want to try a ginger poultice. I recently read about this and gave it to my sister who had terrible knee joint pain, so much that it was hard for her to walk. After 4 hrs of applying the poultice , she said the pain had reduced by 50%. I’m certainly not qualified to give any medical advice, these are just simple home remedies. However, this might be worth a try…you’ll need a small square of fine cloth or cotton material (like a handkerchief) and grate a couple of inches of fresh ginger into it. Fold it up into a little packet , apply the packet or poultice to your should and wrap a bandage around it to hold in place. Wear it for a few hours and see if it brings some relief. The ginger is suppose to help draw out the inflammation and hence relieving some pain. It says not to leave it in too long or do it continuously because it could irritate your skin. This works best for joint pain and inflammation. It’s just a thought. Hope it helps.

@@suzyrebelo Hi Suzy, thank you for the quick reply its much appreciated. I think i was under the impression from other videos that i should feel heat when putting on skin. Thanks again for your help . x

Hi there. Unfortunately, you can not use liquid cayenne. It must be the dried herb or pepper. Introducing a liquid like water would create mould and the beeswax won’t set the salve. You can use chilli peppers and ground them up into fine powder, that would work too. Hope this helps.

Not relatatet to ''salve''. Can I mix olive oil with 'cayenne extract of 45-50 % alcohol and distilate water' and to use it just like that until I get what I need to do something more complex like salve, or would create mould? How long does it take for this mixture to mold? I have very severe muscle pain in my legs due to muscle cramps that do not go away for years, and I would like to try cayenne. Thanks for this video.

Hello. I had to rematch my video to see what I said. You need 1 oz of ground cayenne pepper.. a little more or less won’t make a big difference. Soaking the ground cayenne in the vodka overnight is key, it really helps preserve and infuse the pepper into the oil. Organic ground cayenne is fantastic to use. do the peppers after being in the salve cause problems applying and then touching your face?
@suzyrebelo
@suzyrebelo Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely.. Especially is you were to accidentally touch your eyes. That’s why it better to use rubber gloves when applying it to afflicted area , then remove gloves and even wash your hands. Unless the pain is in your hands in which case I would rub on hands and wear cotton inexpensive gloves until it’s absorbed into skin and then wash your hands very well , taking care not to touch your face. Think of it as eating hot wings with your hands and then touching your eyes or nose, it would burn and irritate the skin. Hope this helps.

Can I use grape vinegar or apple vinegar instead than alcohol?
@suzyrebelo
@suzyrebelo Жыл бұрын
Hi there. The alcohol does two things, it helps preserve the salve and speeds up the infusion process. You can’t substitute with vinegar because it would introduce water into the oil and it would go make the salve go bad. If you don’t want to use alcohol , you can infuse the oil by letting it sit in a dark cupboard for 6-8 weeks. Then you’d make the salve. Or you could use the water heating method ,in a crock pot ,like in the propolis video. Heat no more than 120*f for 4-6 hrs or until the oil turns a dark reddish colour- then make salve by adding beeswax . Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

The cayenne pepper is a type of Capsicum annuum. It is usually a moderately hot chili pepper used to flavor dishes. Cayenne peppers are a group of tapering, 10 to 25 cm long, generally skinny, mostly red-colored peppers, often with a curved tip and somewhat rippled skin, which hang from the bush as opposed to growing upright. Most varieties are generally rated at 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units.[1] reference wikipedia Thanks for watching
