Couldn’t believe the state of the front sprocket bolt when I took the chain off to clean it. Could have been serious if I hadn’t of noticed. Probably one of the most critical bolts on any bike.

Good find. I noticed my rear sprocket had a wobble. I was wondering what it might be caused by. Interesting. I also have a stripped bolt on the chain cover. Trying to find a bolt is not easy. Good video.

Oh I would have thought the sprocket cover bolt would be fairly standard. Measure the diameter and pitch and search for a generic bolt rather than specific Honda part. Or if it’s the internal thread, run it out with a tap possibly ?

Oh, it’s the bolt to the chain guard. Thanks. I can’t find an oem bolt. Ordered a second extractor kit. Will try that. I already tried one drill extractor kit and epoxy and lots of hammering. Ace hardware gave me the wrong bolt 2 times. You really had a good find.

@@jbean530 ah I see. Thanks for the comment, yeah it was probably over torqued a number of times. I think there is actually meant to be some play in the sprocket, but the bolt was definitely bottoming out so not helping. I see chain guard need specific bolt, pain in the bum.

Think you might have the axle going in from the "wrong" side..the cranked washer, which goes outside and under the swingarm, and the threaded end of the axle and axle nut should be on the chain and sprocket side of the swingarm/wheel......don't know if this makes much difference as I had mine like yours last year and my little CB 500 carried me up to Dublin ( from Cork, so about 160 miles) to get the IOM ferry, followed by 2 weeks at the Manx GP, and then home from Belfast, maybe 250 miles, so all in I must have put maybe 600/700 miles on the bike with the axle in the "wrong" way...it's a Honda, didn't seem to bother it any, but I did put the axle etc. back in the "correct" way once I spotted it.

Dude that is a brilliant observation, what year is your bike ? I only ask as I too can’t see what difference it would make but I notice the factory had R & T models (1993/1994) with spindle going in on the brake side, and nut/tab washer on the chain side, exactly as you say, but the V,W,SW,X,SX,Y,SY,2 and S2 ( 1995-2002 ) have the spindle going in on the chain side and nut/washer brake calliper side. So it looks like that may be a change in set up by the manufacturer, in the early years, but can’t imagine that makes an engineering difference. Either way, I do seem to have it correct as per the manual, as my bike is a 2002. What made you think your’s was wrong in the first place? Sounds like you have had a great time on your bike, and I’m looking forward to the future when time allows to do similar. Ride safe mate and thanks for the comment. Rich

@@memybikeni9931 Hello, mine's a 98 SW model so mechanically the same as yours. The Haines manual shows that the rear axle should be inserted from the exhaust/brake side for all models, including the drum brakes R and T ones....Don't have an owner's manual so I'm going on the Haines ( book of lies..) and the way the bike came to me.... I suppose it does make sense to have the cranked washer and big torqued down nut on the side that experiences the most force (from the drive chain when accelerating and decelerating) as most people don't use the rear brake very forcefully...? But then the chain adjusters on both sides also keep the rear wheel straight...!! Depending on what exhaust you've got, its quite a bit easier to get the axle in from the chain side, as you're not going to be whacking the silencer with your mallet...!

@Sir Boss. We seem to have two different print versions of Haynes then, as I’m staring straight at the photos of RT and the later models, with the spindle switched to the left on the later models in the photos. Weird, and I agree, Haynes doesn’t always have it right, but these are photos not just text. I did an engine rebuild and it most definitely had some of the internals wrong in the pictures so totally agree, not 100% reliable. It’s worth a note that on the CBF500 you can clearly see the spindle going in from the left. Maybe you have an older (or newer) Haynes printed version ???. I’ve been riding it like this for 7 years now so don’t think I’ll worry on it too much 🤣🤣🤣. Really good to mention it though,.

@@memybikeni9931 Well then, I knew the Haynes wasn't to be trusted 100% and this conversation only confirms that...! The manual I have is no. 3753 and is marked as copywright 2001, and on mine all the pictures show the axle inserted from the brake side...up until pg. 7.19, where I found picture 16.29 with the nut and washer on the brake side, which is the opposite side to every preceding picture, including pictures 16.4, 16.5 and 16.13 on pg 7.18....so yes, 2 pages facing each other and the axle is on opposite sides..you couldn't make this stuff up!.. So I switched mine needlessly a few weeks ago...and while doing so the pads swung down out of the caliper and I wasted another 40 minutes of my life trying to line everything up while getting the axle back in...! Anyways, ride safe, keep up the good work and illegitatimi non carborundum.

Ok so if you look at pictures 16.4 16.5 and 16.13 they are as you say spindle going in brake side, but that is on the drum brake model, and 16.29 going in chain side is the disc brake model, the pictures are of the earlier/later bike, so you should follow 16.29 as yours is the SW ‘98. I think that’s the issue dude !
