For those who can't seem to figure out how it works. A video hoping to demystify how the automatic cam chain tensioner works on a 1976 CB550F (likely the same on other CB500 and CB550s).

Great video, thanks! Been riding around for years and adjusting my cam chain on my CB 500F K1 but now I know how it looks like on the inside. Great help as I now understand how it works.

holy crap ive been scouring the internet for anything about my cb1000c and have found no parts and no info for adjusting my tensioner. ive heard that its self adjusting and one guy told me it cant be manually adjusted but i dont belive him. was wondering if you new of any sights that had a guide for manual adjustment. i love my bike and have a looong ride im wanted to attend but now i cant if i dont get this fixed.

on my cbr600 f1 the cam chain is loose so i ordered a new tensioner and i was wondering if you think that will take up some slack . i could post a vid of it so you could check it out since you kinda seem like you know what your talking about

I hate to be the barer of bad news but I think your tensioner is toast. I think the adjuster screw is press fitted to the cam gear & you will likely have to pull the tensioner to try to fix it, or replace it. I would exercise the 2nd option. Replacing it can be done without taking the motor out & apart, but it will have to be tilted in the frame to clear the top frame tube. Did you check out SOHC4. net? Great forum for Honda CB tech questions.

Hi is it right the motor has to be tilted to remove this? Just taking off the cam cover?
