Replacing the old tired 30 year old fuel pump so thought id show the tank removal process. I also cut an access panel so I'll never have to drop the tank again. Wound up removing the whole rear end to rebuild it after I shot this. Being under there and seeing it all I just decided it was time to do it.
Anyway, Thanks for the support and hope someone finds this helpful.
Later.

when we were living at our previous house we had a back yard, I dropped the fuel tank and cleaned it till it shined like a crystal ... I didn't do an access panel to able to change the fuel line when an accident happens. The new house we live in. doesn't even have a parking spot. I greatly regret not doing an access panel back then ... thanks for the video

Looks great man, I'm trying to get my car through inspection and it keeps failing the gas tank pressure test. I tightened everything I could without dropping the tank but looks like I'm gonna have to redo mine like you did yours. Really appreciate this detailed video!!! Thanks for the support. Glad it helps. Sorry to hear about the inspection problems. So the tanks loosing pressure somewhere huh. It has that second steel line that runs along the fill line. Mine had rusted through and needed replaced. They sell that whole assembly. The tanks are pretty cheap to. Check eBay. Good luck. Let me know how it works out 👌. Just bought a 92 cb7. 226k with every service record since new! No rust, Florida car. Turning into my commuter to save miles on my truck. Want to replace fuel pump. I’d have no problem dropping the tank, but would rather cut a hole to access the pump!! Great idea. Can you give me measurements of how big you made your access hole and I’ll cut one in the same spot?

Sure. May take a day or two to get around to it. I could also shoot you some video of precisely where its cut. That's really important because there are brake lines that run right along there and could easily be cut. It would be easiest to get you this content on Instagram's messenger. I am so intimidated by this job but my cb needs to have a new tank and pump. I have the parts. It’s just working with fuel is not my favorite thing or being under the car. Irrational but based fear. How long does this take for someone doing it by themselves? My car had a pump replaced last year so everything’s been removed once before. I believe it will be slightly easier since it’s been dropped. There isn’t anything stuck or shouldn’t be. But I am nervous to do this alone. I’ll do anything else up top on the car but the moment it goes in the air I want a partner. It’s just me so idk. I can’t afford a shop tho.

@dreamabilityCB7 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, glad you asked. I'd say a solid days work. I'd say one day, taking your time, moving with tactful intent and that fact that it was out a year ago. It isn't a hard job at all. With car work it's all about taking your time and accepting problems as they arise and addressing them with patience an tolerance. You'll be fine. As far as the fear of being under the car I'd say that's a healthy fear. However there are ways to eliminate the possibility altogether. You could put four jack stands under the he car. Two actually supporting the car and another two in place under the sub frame for redundancy. I do this myself. If the cars up on four jack stands then I keep a jack in place too. I've spent months under that car like that and no problems. Felt perfectly safe because I knew if one failed I had a back up. Pretty slim to non odd of one failing but doesn't hurt to have a back up. As for the fuel. It's not so bad. Just do what I said in the video and it'll go smoothly. It really made almost no mess. I didn't get soaked in gas or anything. Definitely safe as long as you are smart about the fact your working with a constable 🔥. Lastly I did the Walbro pump. Zero problems with it years later. Just be sure to buy directly from them or have them give you a local retailer because there are A LOT of knockoffs of their product. Good luck. Let me know how it works out.

@@dreamabilityCB7 thank you for responding haha I’m tackling the job as we speak. Headed back to the video for a reference. I’m taking my time, no help beyond you and this video (bless you for making this 😭) so Im nervous but confident I can do it as long as I’m thorough and methodical as am I with any other repair work. Im getting ready to remove the lines and drop the tank. So far I’ve been at it about an hour or so. Not as difficult as I thought it would be and I’ve watched this video several times lol. For the flare nut, what size wrench did you use?
@dreamabilityCB7
@dreamabilityCB7 2 жыл бұрын
@@SimbaTheGreat It's a flare nut wrench you'll want to use. They sell em at harbor freight. I think it was either a 12mm or 14mm. Thats awesome. Glad it's helping. Also if you want to avoid the tank strap mounting from stripping like it did on me just remove them from the front side of the tank instead of the back like I did. Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Hey man great work that looks awesome. I plan to restore my cb7 once I get my own place, tired of working in my parents backyard. By the way what did you use to spray the undercarriage, did you use rubberized coating at all?

Great vid!!!! Strap bolts were spinning on mine as well. Where did you locate the screwdriver which allowed you to back out the bolts?
@dreamabilityCB7
@dreamabilityCB7 8 ай бұрын
Apologize for the slow response I've been absent for a while but I'm back. Actually I made a mistake by not removing the bolts from the opposite end which would have allowed the removal of the tank which would allow it easier access to the side where the weld came undone and much easier to remove the bolt that way

Hey. Sorry I've been in the hospital.
