CB750 - front end torque settings, more problems with old triple clamp & update

Since the last Episode in this Series covering a range of repairs on this Classic CB750 K2, I received a number of emails of support from viewers who sent through much needed torque settings for the front end of the bike. Unfortunately Honda didn't include them in their Service Manual which, well, was a bit daft to day the least!
So as a way of thanks to everyoine who has helped so far with this project I decided to do an update video...
Since the last video I have re-fitted the bars & associated controls, none of which was done to camera given the process has already be covered in previous Episodes - when we didn't know about the failure of the original triple clamp!
In this video we cover a few things, from front fork upper clamp washer (spacer) thickness to another look at the old triple clamp. Run therough the torque settings & fit a few more parts (not many!) to the bike.

Andy, I think your D washer should be 2.3mm thick and definitely not loose.

Hi Kevin, if they were that thick they definitely would not fit into this gap on this aftermarket triple clamp & if I forced them in the clamp wouldn't close up enough to clamp the fork. I suspect that this non-genuine triple clamp doesn't even require the D spacers.... Anyway, I'm sure the viewers will let us both know in the comments Thanks for your feedback Cheers Andy

That would be bad, having one of the fork tube triple clamps brake while you were cruising at 65mph, or at any speed.

andy i cant help feeling something is not rite . i cant see the mid washers being lose s the full point is to stop the clamps being over compressed . unless its relying on the bottom clamps taking all the load upwards

It's a puzzle for sure. Given I now know the triple clamp is an aftermarket & that some aftermarket ones don't require the spacers there are too many variables here. I need to identify the brand of part & go from there. The new yolk certainly would not have accepted even the thinner spec spacer as per the specs I was sent through. It also appears that the thickness of these spacers seems to vary depending on the model of CB750. It's an interesting one but I'm confident at 9Nm of torque there really is nothing to worry about at the moment.... I'll keep researching! Cheers Andy

Failure on both sides, would have me to believe it would be a fault in the casting material. Too soft of an aluminum blend. Should have been harder material.
