Well.....it's been a while, but now the last of the parts are in hand we can get back to ''Project CB750''. It's time to remove the old triple clamp, take a look why it may have failed & fit the new, Genuine Honda, item.
In the video we cover swapping over the clocks, fitting the headlight mounts - no simple task given the info in the Honda Service Manual!
It's slow progress, often the case with old project bikes, but at least we are now going in the right direction!

That D washer should be 2mm's thick according to one of my CB750 books. That's the earlier "unicorn" triple tree. Harder to find and more expensive than the later year 750's. Ive been looking for a video to explain how the fork gator goes onto the bottom of that head light fork ear. So glad you made this video. Now I know.

the flat on that D washer needs more taking off i think its binding on the fork tube and bolt andy liking the vid

Hi John, yes you are correct. I had a much better view of what was going on when I was editing up the video. I'll be sure to be replacing these washers with some of the correct dimensions at the next stage of the build. Really appreciate all your help Cheers Andy

Definitely not. Here in New Zealand it's illegal to repair or modify a steering/suspension component. Besides, this is a rather important component on the bike & failure could likely cause serious injury or death... Cheers Andy

Would a K4 triple clamp have that same weakness? They still have D washers.

Interesting, I never has that issue on my CB500......it must have been exclusive to the CB750.

In my CB750 Clymers manual there's some torque specs but I don't see top triple tree fork holders listed. It does list "fork top bridge to front fork" and "front fork bottom bridge." Could those be upper and lower triple tree...or are they referring to something else? It has them at 13 to 17 ft pounds of torque. Nowhere near what you referenced.

Nice :) Pretty dissapointing of the part supplier to make such a rookie paint job. You would think for such an expensive part, they would properly plug the screw holes for painting!

That doesn't look like a genuine Honda part. Should be a satin finish and Honda would have masked the threads.
