This concept is still the same as the " Stelzer- Motor" in Germany, invented in the 1960ies..

As a mechanic I see 2 massive problems with this design. 1) There's gonna be a push in one direction from the piston and a push from the cylinder head = Massive vibration. 2) The only way to lubricate this engine is with 2 stroke oil which is very polluting.

Couldn't you put two side by side with offset firing order to balance out the vibration? Apparently the engine doesn't require any lubrication.

From another article: "The air-cooled engine needs no lubrication and instead has graphite piston rings and special coatings to reduce friction."

The seals around the reciprocating shaft will generate a lot of friction. They have to handle compression forces, as do the normal piston rings. They will need to be lubricated, and this means burning oil, the issue which plagues tw0-strokes.

The seals don't have to touch the shaft at all. Check out brass 2 stroke seals. They don't actually contact the crankshaft but are close enough to keep everything contained.

Surprised that there's so many negitive comments. I think it's a brilliant idea and if it runs on hydrogen that will help save the planet. People seem to forget that a conventional combustion engine uses the same linear motion with the piston going up and down. So simple and easy to maintain and repair. With different bore sizes and and multi cylinder units it's uses could be endless. Well done Aquarius.

This engine will still require a conversion to rotary motion. As displayed, it just oscillates. It does have potential though. It would operate kind of like a 2 stroke engine. I see this basic concept scaled by multiple modules times to increase power. Though would add to the number of moving parts.

@@poppacapps5573 Yes, but how to turn that back and forth motion to turn the generator shaft? You have to add another mechanical system and that will decrease efficiency, by how much? I wish them all the best.

Watch some videos on mechanical principles it easily done you can definitely turn this into rotation There’s multiple mechanical mechanism to turn linear motion into rotational motion. I’m serious there’s multiple multiple mechanisms

@@patrickmckowen2999 The engine itself produces electricity. The rings in the middle are a coil and magnet setup. Every time the piston slides back and forth, it induces electricity in the coils.

It is not a good idea to put rod into the combustion chamber where there are hot gases with high pressure. You must seal propelly that gap between the rod and walls of the combustion chamber.

So you are saying the rod will get tempered improperly from heat, and it will deform and get stuck?

@@AmericanTestConstitution it is pretty possible. The heat from combustion must make the work and push the piston adiabatically. In this concept the fuel energy from burnt fuel is dissipated via the rod what decreases the efficiency.

An Otto cycle will never hit the piston against the end of stroke, even with misfires. And in this case, a detonation will throw a big weight against the back face, what will make it not hit? How will the transformation of linear movements into angular, how will be the lubrication and cleaning of the parts that are in the chamber and the sealing of the rods.

1: it still uses gas. 2 : there are multiple moving parts, 3: it is not that efficient, at idle it may power a car, but range will decrease with just speed alone, 5: how much power can it generate? Is it enough to power the engines alone? Even the volt increases it's internal engine rpm to add power to just the batteries.

this engine is obviously made for plug-in hybrids which makes a lot more sense to countries with not many charging stations for ev.

Many similar designsnin the last century. Complexity of linear to rotational mvt , vibration ... doomed it. Rediscovered totay to produce electrity.
