I have to point out and I know you mentioned it. But it's a fighting knife and not Bushcraft. I bought this knife and use it only as it was intended and that is self defense. I like the aggressive handle gripping. If I am using it as intended for fighting the aggressive grips means it is less likely to slip from sweaty or wet hands and in a defensive situation the last thing I would want is for the blade to slip from my hand. I am also happy to report mine did not come with the crappy 1980s Velcro sheath. Mine was the kydex with a snap locking instead of Velcro. I own many fighting knives from different companies. My former self defense knife was the full size tanto 8 inch blade Kabar which is a great knife I picked up for around $80. It has been retired and my main self defense knife is the SOG seal team elite that you reviewed. I personally love this knife for personal defense. The blade will never need sharpening and will always be in new condition with no blemishes or marks on the blade. The reason for that is its only purpose is personal protection and God willing I will have it and hopefully never have to use it. I do have many knives and some Bushcraft knives and those will be used according to their purpose. Anyway I did enjoy your review and found the knife I chose can really stand up to some stresses it wasn't intended for. Like I pointed out though the aggressive grips are welcome to me in a self defense situation. Thank you for your review and I just wanted to add my reasoning for my appreciation of the aggressive grips. P.S. I forgot to mention my EDC pocket knife is the SOG Trident that I got as a Christmas gift about 10 years ago. I have been through many pocket knives over the years trying to find one that would be my EDC and the Trident had been hands down the best one I have ever carried and used. It has been slipped into my pocket everyday for about 10 years and I have not looked for a replacement since. Thanks and everyone be safe.

What's up Tac! Damn I haven't seen one of your videos in a few years! I subscribed to you back when you had a little over 10,000 subscribers and your KZfaq name was "Tactical." It's nice stopping by! I seen this knife and I was like: "Oh shit! Tac has this knife too!" I paid $160 for mine. I like how thick and Stout the stock of the blade is. I agree this knife is a fighting knife with me! ... I use my KA-BAR! At least if that breaks I'll spend $70 to replace it instead of $160!

I bought this knife a couple years back. Was batoning with it one day when the finger guard part of the handle broke off. I contacted SOG about it but they said they consider batoning as "abusing" the knife so they wouldn't do anything about it. I always thought it was kinda funny that they market this knife as a navy seal super tough thing, but they won't cover it if it breaks. Anyway, I told them I regretted not buying an ESEE instead and left it at that. Never heard back from them. I love the profile of the knife, but that handle is too aggressive and not replaceable. Anyway, good review Tac!

I wonder if this was purpose designed to be used with gloves? (as a lot of soldiers wear gloves in the field)
@rodrigoteresa79446 жыл бұрын
These SOG designs all look badass but the execution is usually lackin... If you make something in China from AUS-8, FRN, and slap on a sucky nylon sheath, and then charge over $100... I find that kinda questionable. Hopefully they keep going in this recent direction with bringing production back to the US and using S35VN and Kydex and such.
@aaroncoombs43526 жыл бұрын
Rodrigo Teresa hell yeah this knife and many of the soy models would be number one with better steel
@Zo_Rox6 жыл бұрын
I do agree with the price thingy for a aus8 n crappy sheath. But if it is made in USA, using S35VN n kydex. I will never even dream of buying. Coze the price will be at least, easily over 2 to 3 times of this.
@Wildwestwrangler5 жыл бұрын
@Cyrus Wexler finally someone said it. My seal team says Taiwan. Anybody who reads Taiwan and says anything to compare it to or about china should be throat punched!!!
@phillipnunya67935 жыл бұрын
S35VN is a good steel, but I wouldn't want it in a bigger knife or a knife that will be smacked on. It's more brittle than something like AUS8. It makes more sense to but a very hard steel on a small blade because it will be harder to break and it matters more since there is less knife edge.

@kingoftampa5 жыл бұрын
I wouldnt worry about the grip, these are dive knives technically and the overly aggressive stipple is with the intention the knife maybe used underwater.
@paypatrolfactor53364 жыл бұрын
They going need to upgrade that aus8 steel ,but it’s a good design for military needs.
@PerceptionVsReality3336 жыл бұрын
I don't know where you bought yours, but Amazon & eBay usually have these for $80 - $90 I still prefer the OKC sp-1 though, 1095 from OKC is VERY strong & tough.

Tac I saw your old review of the seal team elite (it had a less than perfect score even then) and your chop off videos and I knew this knife wasn't a great design... but I got it anyway because of the looks and also because I found it on sale. I ultimately got rid of it lol. If you explore the different "genres" of fixed blade knives, this knife fares poorly in any comparison.
@SeanJohnson-qm4pu4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the serrations are kinda wack. I personally like the sheath. Overall better than the tech bowie.
@addicted2tone3496 жыл бұрын
That's a lot of money for AUS8. Lot better options out there at that price point. Mall Ninja fluff at its best.
@subject204ghost34 жыл бұрын
If this was mall ninja fluff then the Navy seals would have never adopted this knife. There's a reason for its price and it's use in the military.
@ericwiedenhoft1844 жыл бұрын
While I understand it’s a fairly inexpensive steel the proprietary heat treatment process they use on it really let’s the otherwise mediocre AUS8 shine.

@Marijn Wolvers the bear grylls knives were made in china. The gerber prodigy is american made in portland and quite baddass, although I'd take the seal team first. Especially since you get extra reach. Paid 74 for my seal team.
@justanotherinternetexpert77436 жыл бұрын
I may not be a "SURVIVAL KNIFE" but it looked like it got the job done pretty well to me. I think Tac put some biased into that review because it bataned the shit out of those logs and chopped decent for a knive of its size i think its only draw backs are the crappy sheath and the painful handle granted the bad handle is a big draw back but it preformed well from what i saw.
@DrJuice16 жыл бұрын
You're right, and I think Tac would agree with you. He's not downing it as a _combat_ knife. He says it's good as a combat knife (which is its purpose), but it's not ideal for a _survival_ knife. I notice Tac prefers large blades with especially good steel for survival knives.

Hey Tac. Greetings again from the Czech Republic. I recently bought possibly the ultimate tactical blade. It's not flawless, came a little dull, jimping could be more pleasant. But it's sharpened on both edges. And it stabs! I really noticed the difference between my Bark River Bravo II and this guy. Besides the fact that a fellow tactical knife nut would want to own this, it's not from the usual knife manufacturers. So interesting for youtubers. Entrek Commando MKII. About $200. It's sleek. Definitely just a fighting knife; not bushcraft. Check it out. Might be interesting to compare with other tactical fixed blades. Like my faves: TOPS Prather War Bowie, Kizlyar Phoenix 2, Cold Steel Leatherneck. Keep it up!
