The biggest issue with these tunnels is not dirt. It's the tiles that break off and fall into the roadway, the visible cracks in the ceiling and walls, the visible water leaks, etc.

Most people think the tunnel gets dirty from exhaust fumes, but that's largely untrue. *The majority* (94% according to environmental experts) *of particulate matter is brake dust,* which if you've ever cleaned the wheels on your car, you completely understand. (And since 80% of braking is done by the front wheels due to weight-transfer, that's why your front wheels are so dirty whilst the rears are relatively clean.)

They need to clean the signs. They're barely reflective, and as a new resident, being able to see the signs at night is must! Especially riding the Mass Pike under the Prudential building!

I just don't like the new lighting system. It's super glary and should come with a strobe warning at the beginning of the tunnel. The old system created an outline of the borders of the tunnel which was very helpful when driving, especially for new drivers.

Thank you! Ski season is coming and since I'm RI i have to use those tunnels to get home (i go around on the way up). I always wondered why so dirty but chalked it up to it being okay... But knowing it was THAT EASY TO CLEAN now im mad...

Tunnels are not in good shape and always dirty can’t even see sometimes .. I have no idea the truck existed never seen any ever and I drove the tunnels for years.
