It’s because all the people who like Vivek and think Desantis is alright have trump as their first pick. Vivek is winning as most people second choice, meaning that if trump was off the ticket everybody who supports trump will move to Vivek, and if trump and vivek were off the ticket all those ppl would vote for desantis. You can only vote once in these polls, Trump is too similar to vivek/desantis, while Hayley represents something different(basically a democrat)

Our whole system of elections is ridiculous. The fact that the whole ball of nonsense starts YEARS before the election is ridiculous. I would love it if we adopted the British model (as I once heard it explained, please correct me if I'm wrong) they have something like six weeks to campaign, and all ads have to be factually accurate. That is more than enough time to make up your mind on something. Also, eliminate the EC. One person, one vote, most votes wins.

Iowa has traditionally outperformed students in other states on standardized tests. Education is not the issue. You can find challenged folks everywhere - and per capita more in urban areas since humans have intellectual challenges in the same percentage that our ancestors had 10,000 years ago. Educated in Iowa - high school, college, and law school.

what's hilarious is that people think elections are decided in one day - because news outlets make predictions. The official count is not declared till some time in December -- so people have time to actually count votes and raise legal objections in courts. Not to mention many of the people that convinced others mail in ballots were bad - VOTED BY MAIL IN BALLOT - and neglected to mention a long history of unproblematic mail in ballots. -- which are traceable, readily accountable, paper ballots - that people have until mid December to count and question.

⁠Not everyone in Iowa is a farmer. Des Moines is a very large center for insurance (assessing risk). Historically (especially now in -15F temperatures), assessing risk and conserving (conservative) resources was important. Those that did not conserve wisely died in the winters. Generational families in Iowa tend to be conservative in some things by their nature - but not all things. I have voted Democratic for 30 years, but I understand my neighbors (except the MAGA stuff).

Iowa only has 3 million people in it . That is 1 million people less than Alabama has .NYC has 9 million people in it in comparison . To those stating that Iowa should irrelevant: The electoral college may not be the answer, but this issue would need to be resolved to change it. It is implicit fairness against majority in a uniquely large and diverse (people with differing interests) - just like how the Constitution protects racial minorities against “majority” rules against them.

The electoral college does not protect the minority. The electoral college gives all the power of electing the President to States that are the most politically even. Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania are not small states. Actual minority states like Wyoming and Alaska don't have any power in the electoral college either

These are motivated and informed participatory voters. They get to talk with candidates, which you as one of 335million will likely not. Primaries/Caucuses are intended to vet the best candidate for the party....however we often see the mass primaries end up selecting some of the worst or most repugnant candidates just due to the snowball effect. This is closer to the methodology of the parties before WW2 and definitely in the first century of the Republic. I tend to believe that we'd have a better Republic and better presidents if every state held a caucus on the same day in May....then went straight into the convention in summer. With the snowball effect the poor choices or popularity contests of one state influence rather guesswork or gut voters in later states. It makes little sense that Democrats worry so much about the results of the SC primary when the state does not reflect the demographics of the average Democrat districts, there are no really large cities and the State of SC will vote Republican in Nov. Yet TV ratings and the parties treat it with such gravitas that a bad choice there will ripple through the whole process.

'informed participatory voters' - that are voting for a candidate that has openly declared he wants to abolish the Constitution - is disqualified from holding office by the Constitution -- and has repeatedly said his campaign is about winning to exact political retribution.. IF they are actually 'informed' - they are authoritarian fascist according to what they support (examples of which are too numerous to list here -- and shouldn't be required for 'informed voters')

Some people curse the electoral college as the most undemocratic part of US presidential elections. I think the 2 party system and primaries are much worse. A much better method would be: 1. A congress of 1000 elected officials (US Congress, Governors, Mayors) from all over the country vote for their favorite candidates. The 10 top vote getters get to the next step. 2. A national popular vote primary is held where the top 2 from the 10 candidates advance to the runoff. 3. Election day in November as usual to decide the runoff. As far as I know this would be constitutional and needs only an act of Congress to implement. It would get over the unfair advantage that these small early voting states have and the quite common situation of having to decide between 2 unappetizing choices on election day.

This would be unconstitutional. // Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector. The Constitution specifically said each state gets to decide how they would elect each electrical college elector. An act of Congress is not permitted. And ranked choice voting is much better than one runoff election. No need to reinvent the wheel.

@@isaacng123456789 It most certainly NOT UNCONSTITIONAL! You refer to what the constitution says about what happens after election day. As I point out in 3, I make no change in that. The constitution, except for a few qualifiers like being 35 years of age, says nothing about how the candidates are to be chosen. As for ranked choice voting, you could use that in 1 and 2 instead of letting the biggest vote getters compete in the next step.

you can only caucus for your registered party. R,D, and L have different caucuses at different locations, to determine their candidates for president & update the party platform.
