My grandfather told me a story about when his mother's family visited Charlotte, NC from a rural part of the state. One of his aunt's had never seen a shopping cart and was scared. This was probably in the 1930s or 1940s.

Here’s to shopping carts! I miss the chrome ones. Don’t care for the chunky plastic ones now. In 1937 My grandmother was not a house wife, but a wife, and business owner. Lol Even back then. Not all women who shopped grocery stores were housewives. But, the one thing unlike working women of today. She would never have gotten triggered, nor angry to be called a housewife. Pride, and ‘ME’ were not yet something to bang a drum about. Common sense, and self respect ruled the day.

I'm from Oklahoma. Moved to Aspen, CO where I met Mrs. Goldman. Yes.. The Goldman's did not always live in Oklahoma. My children went to school with the grandchildren of the Goldman's. Mrs. Goldman wore a gold necklace shaped like a shopping cart because that's how they became wealthy and "got out of Oklahoma".

I've listened to Adam Carolla's podcast, on and off for years now. Lately, I have been barreling through the ones that appeal to me from this year (2022). Anyway, I had never heard of Cart Narcs until last week, when Adam had the dude from that show on the program. Pretty funny stuff. It would be an easy enough find on You Tube, as Adam's podcast is presented here as well.

3:37 and 3:45, those dumb "folding" shopping carts. Model 888 of some company (can't dig up much on-line yet). Meant to go over the check-out counter but I cannot remember exactly how they worked. I know we no longer saw them in the '80s. Wondering if that's the main reason my mom didn't like the local Giant chain much back then.

I loved riding on the bottom of those when I was younger. But I think they went out of style due to capacity and possible health issues for cashiers due to repetitive reaching and bending when unloading them.
@theOlLineRebel
@theOlLineRebel Жыл бұрын
@@willinmilwaukee But for us, they slipped over a slightly lowered counter for the cashier. So it would be right there, easy access. But I don't recall how you moved them on from there - that's probably why they didn't last. Not easy to get from cashier load to customer load and leave.

(4:35) "Almost everybody but you thought women were gonna go on shopping with a basket on their arms forever." (Not "people", just "women". Wow.) But I do love the humility in Goldman's answer to the last question. (7:15) He's of course correct.
