Welcome back!
This is just a short video of my efforts at cleaning and polishing my 1979 Honda CBX1000 after its Winter hibernation in the garage. My life has been made so much easier with the addition of my Handy 1200 motorcycle lift.
I've removed a few parts for the purposes of cleaning and generally tidied the bike up a bit in anticipation of the new biking season.
It's all only a bit of fun for an auld eejit like me.
Hope you enjoy.
Cheers, Alistair.

I very nearly bought a CBX in '79......went for the CB 900 instead The CBX Engine is still incredible to look at.

I only got my first CBX in 83(second hand). I had a CB900FA in 81/82 and I don't think there was much in it between the two bikes. If anything the 900 was a bit more nimble.

Just found the channel and subbed when I seen the CBX and a fellow countryman. Enjoyed recognising all the places in Northern Ireland.

Gordy, sorry for the late reply. I had my messages set for 'Top' instead of 'Newest'. Thanks for subscribing. The CBX and Northern Ireland go quite well together. There's a whole lot more of them in this wee country than you'd think. Most folk just like to keep them for display purposes, not me. I prefer ride'em, don't hide'em!

Thanks JWC56 for watching and commenting. I had my first CBX in 83 but only kept it for about two years. I got this one twelve years ago and it's a bike for life. I think there's a fairly healthy CBX scene in South Africa. I've seen quite a few appearing on Facebook and various groups. I had a quick look at your channel, like the CX.

Thanks for watching Stewart. It's hard to imagine that a CBX could ever be bought for £1500 especially when they're fetching £15,000 now. How much did I pay for my first one?...... £1180. That's inflation for ya!😂

@@AlistairCampbell1047cc have you dove into the carbs yourself? I’ve got a low mileage 1981 that is a little cold blooded when first starting up. I’ve heard they all can be that way. Love the sound of open headers and the 6 into 6 is amazing!
@AlistairCampbell1047cc
@AlistairCampbell1047cc 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisstevens3801 , when I first got the bike( about 12yrs ago) the idle jets were blocked. This is a common fault with bikes that have been sitting for a while. My friend Rickie stripped them, cleared the jets and it has been fine ever since. I'm a firm believer in the old adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'. I would be tempted to haul them off maybe next winter and give them a bath in my ultrasonic cleaner( purely for cosmetic reasons). I would be able to do this without separating the carbs because the ultrasonic cleaner is a 22lt one and big enough to take the six carbs as a unit. Might try it, if I do there'll be a video or two!
@chrisstevens3801
@chrisstevens3801 3 жыл бұрын
@@AlistairCampbell1047cc Cheers! I've got a big one as well but perhaps not quite big enough to fit a 6 rack of carbs. Do you really have to unbolt the engine and jack it up to get the carbs out? Or is it possible to do it the conventional way?
@AlistairCampbell1047cc
@AlistairCampbell1047cc 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisstevens3801 I think it's the opposite. It's that long ago I almost forget. The engine has to be unbolted and dropped forwards to allow enough space for removal. This also entails slackening or removing the drive chain and removing the six exhaust downpipes. It's quite a lot of work. There's bound to be a vid somewhere on KZfaq. Hope this helps.

Hi Alistair Campbell are you satisfied with the Avon tires, and is it the original dimensions?
@AlistairCampbell1047cc
@AlistairCampbell1047cc 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marco, as far as I'm aware the tyres are the original size. To be truthful I haven't really done many miles on them, maybe only 500km, but I haven't noticed anything bad yet. I was given the front tyre by a friend and it is quite old so I don't really push it too hard.
