An unscientific comparison of the sound of CCI Quiet .22 LR ammo when compared to CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Sub-Sonic HP and CCI Blazer high velocity loads. In person the CCI Quiet was indeed the quietest but it really does not come across quite so well due to the limitations of my camera's microphone.

I keep a box of that "Quiet" on a shelf of my book case for Rodent dispatching in my back yard. It works good and like the box says, "Quiet",, Not "Silent" as a sound suppresser does. However, It is NOT quiet in a pistol, I found that out. Good demonstration as always dude. - Dave

Yeah most of the rounds that are low noise in a rifle are pretty loud in a pistol.

Great vid. I chronied that stuff at 675 fps out of a 23" barrel and shot it next to a ruger air magnum pellet gun shooting subsonic pellets, they were nearly identical in noise level, but the 22 lr sounded more like a 'crack' from a real gun.

Interesting. I had my chronograph along and planned to see what the speed of the "Quiet" load was but the machine decided not to work that day.

Yes the mic on your camera makes them all sound pretty similar. The first three sounded nearly the same, even though I am sure the standard velocity was louder. The high velocity did come through a bit louder. .22 shorts are nice and quite as well. Another great topic thank you.

I was hoping that the camera microphone might give a better representation than it did. The "Quiet" was certainly the lowest noise load when heard first hand.

2 Saturday's ago I drove past by a garage sale on my way to Dollar General and stopped... The people were moving and got 3 milk boxes of CCI .22lrs. n .22mag. gave them 100 bucks and gotta go thru them yet also grabbed a Dillion 550 press for 200 bucks.... Like CCI Quiets n Standard Velocity for my .22lrs.... be well.

I've been very slowly working through a crate of this stuff for a number of years. I like it a lot just for generally being less disruptive when shooting or hunting small game. I find the accuracy really diminishes out past about 75 yards with most of my rifles, drop is pretty substantial. doesn't chew up grouse even at close range. I know i probably should but I find it quiet enough that I don't bother with ear protection unless I intend to shoot more than a handful of rounds, Still wouldn't really consider quiet enough for neighbourhood pest control, but that's more about the kind of world we're living in now.

One other positive note is that CCI Quiet seems to be a load that is consistently available, some other special loads (like some from Aguila) seem to disappear from the market for long stretches.

IMHO, The CCI Quiet is an "Improved" version of the now discontinued CCI CB Long using a 40 grain bullet in place of the 29 grain .22 short/long bullet in the CB Long.

The CCI CB long was not a terribly good performer from what I remember, the CB short seemed better. The only real advantage of the Long version was that it fed better from box magazines.

id argue blazer black box is the gold standard for utility ammo

@boomstickrevenge CCI Standard Velocity is generally more accurate than Blazer, especially inside of 50 yards.

Where I live we can not legally hunt birds with any rifle, but for those who can I bet this would be a great as ranges are pretty shot in the woods.

I'd be curious to see how it compares to 22 CB Long ammo in terms of noise, as that's the quietest ammo I've shot.

I've shot CB long and it seemed quieter than this stuff.

Have to agree, the mic isnt doing them justice, they make almost no noise, I brought some with me moose hunting so that I could do some small game while there, and the people with me were amazed when firing them out of my 550-1

Yeah in person they are certainly the quietest of the loads shot in the video, the camera microphone does not do them justice.

The quietest I have found yet are the Águila Colibrí. Probably moving at under 600fps. In the Stevens 66C they are no louder than my Diana air rifle.

Yes those are very quiet, but the light bullet makes them less useful for pest control.

I have a Semi Auto in .22 Short. That is a fun gun yes quiet. So is the pump Winchester with the long barrel in .22 short. A little puff is all you get. Put the camera behind the muzzle you will get a more accurate sound reproduction. Nice demo rifle! Thanks for the show.

I'll have to try changing the camera placement to see if that makes a difference.

This video would suggest that all of them are quieter than simply actioning the bolt. I find that very hard to believe. The mic 🎤 must be compensating for the louder rapport of the round.

The auto level compensation makes it difficult to have a good comparison video. One would need much more expensive equipment to do a proper comparison.

Out of my Marlin 925 CCI Quiet sounds like a person clapping there hands together. Running the bolt hard in some rifles might be nearly as noisy.

My TOZ likes CCI standard but does not do well with the lower powered shorts in any brand.

Perhaps the shorts dont tolerate the long chamber jump and accuracy suffers as a result. I must say I dont shoot many shorts anymore as they have become something of a premium price 22 load.

It seems to shoot decent and in person it really is a bit more quiet than the audio on the video indicates.

It would be interesting to do this with a sound meter to get the decibel levels, but even with your microphone it's clear that the CCI quiet has the lowest sound level.

Yes it would be interesting to do with proper measuring equipment. I bought a cheap decible meter but I dont think it works well for reading short duration sounds like gunshots.
